Tips for dealing with wear around magnet

My spiderman has a bit of wear around the Doc Ock magnet. Nothing excessive, and pretty common from what I gather.

Just wondering if anyone has some tips to prevent the wear becoming too bad? I saw on Cliffy's website he supplies a carbon fibre ring to put around it -- is that any good?

Also I've seen people on pinside take the magnet core out and milling the top nice and flat again. I'm not equipped to do that but grateful to anyone who can chime in with their experience(s).

Lastly, any recommendations for someone who would be able to touch up the playfield around it? Not sure it's warranted but still curious. Playfield repairs is one thing I'm not comfortable doing myself.
 
Cliffs ring (ahem...) will sort that out so you don’t need to touch it up (ahem..) and it will protect it. He’s really easy to deal with and very reasonable on post.
 
I have just ordered a set from Cliff for Indiana Jones, I also removed the core and spent 10 minutes with a file getting it flat.
 
Pinball mania also sell a mylar ring for magnets
I put it over the Cliffy ring . It's stops the ring from curling up at the edges.
 
I also have this to sort out, any tips on removing the core? Is it a pain?

I actually need 2 of these also. @Fubar if you are ordering can you let me know - I wouldn't mind adding a couple on too.

Sounds like we might want to start a group buy at Cliffy's to save on postage. I'll start a new thread for that later today.

Yep its pain. I have used an impact driver in the past but you have to be careful.
. The old cores that I had , have been turned down on lathe .
Filing is awkward to get straight. Tried it, with poor result.
 
Sounds like an idiots guide is needed! There must be a method would some kind of pre treatment possibly penetrating oil help?
 
I ended up buying the correct sized socket for my impact driver and it came off immediately. I’m happy to lend it to anyone who needs it for a core removal.
 
I replaced both cores on my TZ back in March i reckon mine had 27 years of wear on them
I had to remove the magnets from the table and fix them into a homemade mold before attacking them with a large Spanner , a large flat head driver and some un-cure oil
they were rock solid so took some persuasion
New cores straight in lovely job and now i have zero "core clipping" as the balls roll clean over them now :-)
 
Just watch with the carbon ring - it can also lift the ball enough that the opto on dock Ock doesn’t register. When you put it on put something weighty on it to make sure it’s flat.
