TAF "Enter" button/switch problem

Hi All,

I've just been working to get my TAF up and running again after a number of years in storage. The machine generally wasn't too bad but it wasn't saving date/time etc. and I found corrosion on the battery terminals (although there didn't appear to be any leakage onto the board). I decided to clean the battery terminals (which resulted in the CMOS RAM working again) but I then started to see problems with the "enter" button/switch not working at all or being inconsistent. I believe this is related to chip U16 which is immediately under the leftmost battery holder. I've cleaned it with a cotton bud and some IPA and now the board thinks the enter switch is permanently closed so it cycles through the setup menu continuously. A subsequent cleaning resulted in the switch not working at all again and the cycle has continued from there.

I don't think there was any leakage from the battery onto this chip as it was working without issue but the cleaning of the battery terminals has resulted in debris that I somehow can't get to interfering this its operation. Anyone got any ideas what to do here? I can't see anything obvious around the chip's pins in terms of debris or leakage/damage.

Thanks in advance,

Kirk

It is very possible that corrosion is under the chip and solder mask. Please do some hi res pictures, this is a battery damage classic. Probably best to get the board to someone who cn check and repair.

I've left the machine on for an hour or two this morning in the Switch Edges utility and it has started randomly detecting the Enter switch. Will see how it behaves over the next few days but may need to get U16 chip looked at.
