Hello :)

I've managed somehow to crack the base of my bookcase on my TAF. Only noticed randomly as I was peering around the back of the machine.

From what I've been led to believe replacing this part is actually quite an onerous task, pretty much involves removing the bookcase assembly from the machine, desoldering optos, making sure shims etc are in the right place, etc. Sounds like I could easily mess it up tbh.

It appears to only be cracked on one side, so I could presumably apply some kind of glue and squeeze it together and it wouldn't be a problem for a while (but would probably play on my mind - OCD).

Curious to know your thoughts :)

Cost isn't the problem.. it's the hassle factor of taking the whole bookcase assembly apart :( From what I've been led to believe you need to desolder the optos, make careful note of what (if any) shims are used, and where, etc.. it honestly sounds like something I'll mess up, to be honest. :(

I'm not particularly competent, but managed to change a bookcase without too much trouble. Made the mistake of trying to push the optos through the cavity in the bookcase frame - they don't quite go through, so you do have to desolder.

Lots of pics as you go, or even shoot video if you're worried about it. I'm sure you'll be fine! The problems I run into are where I think,

"yeah, I've photographed everything, I know where it goes..." reassembly, "oh cr@p, no I didn't where does this go?"

Yeah, you’re all right of course. A moment of temporary insanity borne out of very busy days at work and anxiety over dismantling it. 😓

Digging this up again…

I haven’t had time to do this with work and other stuff getting in the way, and am still intimidated by the job if I’m honest, so it hasn’t yet been done. To be honest I haven’t played it in several months so in all likelihood I’ll be probably selling it before too long…

Does anyone have any recommendations for anyone in the South West (Bath/Bristol area) who could do this for me, ideally someone who has done it before so knows the gotchas? Happy to pay for the time etc.

Thanks in advance, and hope you’ve all had great Christmases and New Years!

man take the game outside get some accelerant and a match - its the only way to be sure.
