I really need to clear another space with 2 machines incoming, so I'm selling my Gottlieb Surf'n Safari. This is a great System 3 game from the alpha-numeric era that actually includes 2 and 3 ball multiballs and a grid of modes that will seem very familiar to anyone who plays on Sterns... each shot lights a spot on the grid, and completing a shot 5 times fills its column and starts the corresponding mode... also each completed set of the 5 major shots lights a horizontal row which starts a feature. Multiball has jackpots and superjackpots and there is also a ramp loop champion. The whirlpool is great and the lower kickback standups are tricky! A couple of YouTube videos here that other people have made:

I'll try to include everything below but please ask for any more photos/videos/explanations you want, I wouldn't want to miss anything out!

GOOD:
* Works 100%. There are no issues with gameplay at all - I rebuilt both flipper mechs (parts from USA including new bats, coils and sleeves) so flippers are new and snappy, and I also stripped down 90% of the playfield to thoroughly clean it and replace all rubbers and balls. I even cleaned the plastic inserts underneath the playfield. The only areas I didn't fully remove were the whirlpool and adjacent brackets as I couldn't work out how to safely remove it. One of the screws was dethreaded in that area too.

* Playfield is in excellent condition as it has a mylar cover - some touched-up wear on unmylared areas by left saucer and to back-right of Rodney

* Alphanumeric displays are all working 100% perfectly.

* Ramps are smooth but the RH one has a crack/split where the ball drops down from the VUK but it doesn't affect it at all.

* Whirlpool and optos work 100% but the whirlpool has cracks/splits - apparently extremely common, I couldn't source a new replacement but I did see inlays that will protect it further. But it works fully.

* Cabinet is really nice for age - there is some marking here and there as you'd expect, but no fading so looks really nice.

* Custom orange armour/legs/trim - extremely good condition, no chips I can see but there are 2 dents on the side rails, presumably where someone has dropped the head down (grrrr) but I don't think they show unless you look for them, please see photos.

* Playfield has what I assume is a factory-fitted mylar (?), I don't know if that was standard for these? There is wear on unprotected areas, mainly by Pipeline (left saucer) and behind Rodney to the right. Both have been touched up (not by me) so you can see them up close but they don't notice when playing in my opinion.

* Added new apron cards (+ spare set) and I bought a manual although it's missing pages 26-44! Don't ask... anyway, I've never needed other pages.

* Test button and volume work perfectly.

* The playfield is really level - no weird warping or anything!

* All the original palm trees are present and correct (as far as I can tell!)

BAD:
* The side rails dents

* The translite is in good condition but has some slight spotting on it in a few places - see photo. Again it's one of those things you can see up close but not at a distance or when playing.

* The cracks on the RH ramp and Whirlpool (very common unfortunately but purely cosmetic and don't affect gameplay)

* The wear by Pipeline and Rodney as mentioned above

* The LH wireform that leads back to the left flipper has lost the screw retainer - I have used a silver paperclip to create a screw retainer which works fine.

* The inside side panels of the cab have some wear, one big scratch from raising/lowering playfield. This was caused by an incorrectly placed screw which I fixed so no longer scraping.

* A little bit of rust on the backbox hinges, but that's me being fussy!

* The bottom of the cab is a bit dirty/mucky. Not sure what with, I would guess decades of black dust residue from coils perhaps?

* The playfield is a little dull, years of wear on the mylar presumably... I have cleaned and polished it by hand, I imagine a proper buffer could bring back some more shine in theory.

* Glass is really good, there are a couple of light scratches in the top right, not noticable until you remove the glass.

* I have just realised in taking photos that a few of the GI bulbs in the backbox aren't working... well 4 "bulbous ones" and the bottom-right bayonet - I tried swapping the bayonet and that didn't work so possibly a wiring issue there but not something I'd noticed with the translite in and playing (the 4 larger bulbs work but are flashers).

I also have a couple of short one-handed videos which I can WhatsApp to anyone who is interested.

Viewing/testing is very welcome. Collection is from Chagford, Devon or Martin is due here shortly (hopefully!).

£1995.

when i bought my first pin (hook) i didnt know the difference between gottlieb/stern/williams/ data east/£1100 and mint. 2016.

I have just had a call from Martin who will be coming here first thing tomorrow morning - so extra £100 off down to £1895 for anyone who buys it today and has Martin collect it tomorrow! (I need to know by 9pm to leave enough time to collapse and wrap the machine though)

SnS was my first ever experience of a pin not fitting in my Honda Jazz …. until Ivan loosened up the head and slid it down a bit.

Is that ‘pins vs cars’ file still being updated? My version of it is from about 2016
