Ok, sttng crackling has got worse, all connections checked. Research shows me to try a different sound board to confirm that is where the fault lies. I have IJ alongside like a willing family member. Can I just swap boards with the IJ roms still in situ and hope for comical sound swapping shenanigans or do I need to swap out all the roms and risk damaging their wee delicate little legs?

Yes you can swap DCS sound boards without swapping the ROMs over. It will probably give you an error message about the sound ROM version, but you can usually get past that and still test it enough to confirm that it will play sounds. Never tried IJ to STNG specifically, but have done it with others

Ok, it's definitely the board. I have checked solder joints on main capacitors. Problem still exists. Is the next stage to replace the caps or is there something else to check?
All advice gratefully recieved!
