Super Mario Bros Invincible?

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help me wit this small issue on my SMB........

From what I understand, when you get "invinvible" the small shield between the flippers should raise to stop the ball draining.

However, on mine it does not do this - the screen shows "invincible" but the shield stays in the lowered position.

In test mode, I've tested the shield solenoid, and it both raises and lowers correctly so the problem is not the coil.

Any ideas? Or an I wrong and does the shield actually do something else and not activate during "invincible"?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Carl,

Possibly, but I assumed that the shield would come up at this point.

Does anyone know when the shield should activate, as it is possible that it activates at a different point in the game.

Cheers, Mark

The switch needs checking on the shield, will be dirty or not closing correctly, test the soleniod in the test mode and it should move up and down. Had this on both the Marios I've had

Great, thanks Pin Muncher!

So at least I know it SHOULD be activating, and the solenoid tests ok, so hopefully will be the switch!

Probably a stupid question, but is the switch on the same assembly as the solenoid? Should it be normally open or closed?

Cheers,

Mark

It will be on the solenoid mech, I think it will probably be closed.

Likely hood is a wire has come off the switch contact.

You will be able to work it out once you lift the playfield up, just remember to lift the balls out, also if you manually raise the shield it should stay up by itself, if you then turn the game on with the playfield down and the door closed it should drop the shield, this would prove that the switch is always open/closed can't remember which way as it's been a few years since I've had a Mario, last one was just dirty on the switch itself

Thanks to Pin Muncher, the shield is now working again :) The contacts needed a little cleaning and a slight adjustment, and now it goes up and down as it should :)

Thanks again, Mark
