Strange BSD Issue

OK, so I was playing my BSD tonight and after powring it up, on several occasions when I started a game and I pulsed both flippers at once maybe three or four times in rapid succession then the game seemed to power down and go blank for a second, then reset itself as if just powered on.

After a while it stopped doing it and I played for an hour with no issues.

Before I start poking and prodding I thought I would see what ideas you experts had! Loose connectors, issue when cold????

As always, thanks in advance for your help.

But do steps 5 and 6 first as in my experience that’s where the problem normally lies.

You’ll also find plenty of discussion on the topic elsewhere on this forum.

Thanks guys - mega helpful. I feel slightly better that its a known issue.......rather than some unique obscure problem.

Lots to read through there, brilliant.

I’ve got 5 Williams machines and two was resetting before Christmas, these machines are nearly 30 years old so apart from the usual burnt plug that can cause resetting I decided as an x tv and video repair engineer it would be wise to change all the capacitors on all the boards starting with the JD and H20 i also changed the two regulators which can cause the same problem, pinball mania ones have longer legs which are much better in ever way.
I was shocked how many capacitors was so low on the meter obviously some read ok, I have no reason to sell these machines so why not put new components on the panels that give these games life, owners spend hundreds on mods but not on the boards behind the glass.
Because I did a mass change of components on my two machines I can’t say which was the cause of resetting but what I can say is I feel I’ve made them a bit more bulletproof, both are working perfect.
Since then I’ve done the same mass component change to the other 3 Williams finding many capacitors reading very low on all the boards.
Each machine in materials was less than £45 and labour £0 plus it gave me something to do in lockdown.

These boards have double sided print so anyone attempting to do what I did should have good soldering skills.

Tv repair people are getting harder to find.

If you can repair monitor chassis you could certainly make a few quid helping arcade folk with their machines.
