Hello dudes,

So at lunch today at work Tron started smoking. Turns out the coil for the left slingshot stuck on and started cooking. I've had a look and the thing was at 99999999999999999999 degrees and had slightly blackened.

Anyhow before I go and order a new coil, I presume there's a transistor failure? What should I be looking for prior to replacing the stinky cooked coil?

Was it the Tron machines with the cheap mosfets going wibble. I know they have problems on the new Metallicas

Nope just that,IMO Stern flipper system is ****e.
If you hold a flipper up for a few minutes,as someone phones ya for example, the mosfet burns out.So you then have to take out the board, and solder a new one in.not the sort of thing ya average punter is confident enough to do.

re the fault order a mosfet anyway - IRRC IRL540's.
Replace coil if resistance is wrong - don't forget doesn't have to be a stern one, just same gauge/windings
Ensure switch isn't shorted - check switch test. Also a very slim chance drive line has shorted(rare but happened on a SM once,as mechanical movement wore thru insulation)
Will try and find online manual to see which mosfet it is

26-1200 wms/ballys coil would - just cut off diode if it has one

This is why buying ANY semi populated playfield is worth it.If it's £50 you will prob have ten coils on it,let alone loads of usefull connectors/bolts,nets,posts etc etc
MANY years ago, probably 10 years ago @chris b sold me a mullered T2 pf for peanuts. You will not believe how useful that lot has been over the years:thumbs::thumbs:

hmmmm,

page 98 of pdf shows Q13 as lh upper flipper, yet page 51 says lh upper flipper is Q12:eek:

Good ol' manuals being wrong eh?

So I look in my MET manual - as basic system it may be the same, and I notice an error in that manual too!!

Buy a Data East coil , these are the same......and much cheaper. (If you take the same number offcourse ! )
