Spike 3 rumours, thoughts wish lists- the place to post

Thought I'd create a thread for all spike 3 rumours, thoughts and wish lists.

Il start:

Number one wish is downward compatible with spike 2 and 1 node boards, that would put any fixability can't repair issues to bed as could just use node spike 3 in the older machines.

Multi player? Yeh probably could I doubt that be anything to do with spike , surely it's the code and could come of the existing WiFi and insider connect. Although online multiplayer I'm guessing would potentially require servers in the middle that would be expensive to host.

Looking at the spike node all the switches, lights and coils are coming off them, I'm guessing there limitations to how many additional toys switches flippers simultaneously can be run of them

Your recreating boards, so your electrical knowledge is far better than my very basic one, am I missing something with the current nodes, besides the issue of machine micro soldering, there reaching capacity of the number of things that could be run of them in the game?
 
multiplayer with a built-in camera and mic so you can see the player you are playing. Allow Bluetooth headset and /mic support
Leaderboards, support friends, groups and global (via pin screen and phone app and website)
Friends and groups challenges, set custom challenges for friends and groups
Enhancements to achievements
Ability to change pin settings remotely (phone etc)

That would be cool, might be a big ask in adapting, depends how they did it, that type of features would cost a fair bit to keep running, bandwidth, hosting etc. not sure the pinball community would be up for yearly subscriptions, given the pricing issues for the machines currently.

However saying that I do think this might be the way forward to getting and engagement for new players, imagine being able to attend a tournament from your house, the moderator could send the settings to your machine that can't be overidden during tournament play. That would be pretty cool

Not sure that would work with machine levelling, types of flipper rubbers, etc. differing between machines. How would they stop people playing with the glass off?

To be fair to stern some of it is the licensor.

Pokémon will 1000 have Pikachu and any other things available, if Nintendo decides the licence can be used. They did with Pokémon go, actually Pokémon go type in a pinball might work, each arcade is a gym, imagine, collecting Pokémon by actually having to visit arcades and using insider connect.

I was more thinking of personal tournaments not ones that people take so seriously they require the need to cheat a

Correction I didn't think people would go that far to cheat, I forgot about the minority
 
Head to head would be one of the few things I would be willing to pay a subscription for, given the ongoing cost of hosting etc it would be fair enough, could have meter measuring incline? everyone has to be within a spec, you couldn't stop cheating, or control every aspect, but it could be close enough to be a lot of fun

That's a great idea, one of the challenges for us in northern Ireland is the geographic spread, to go to a meet can be a 4 hour drive, meaning 8 hours. The issue I see is having to have the same machine, which would still be a problem.

So practically couldn't or wouldn't work, although a fair few own Godzilla, a Godzilla only tournament 🤷‍♂️

Hopefully, they won't stop offering the features for the majority, even if a few cheat. They just do their best endeavours to try and make it even. PSN, Xbox, Steam, etc., can all be cheated on, but the majority don't. And maybe they allow people to provide feedback on people?
TBH, I Don't think that much data will need to be exchanged for head-to-head and stored for leaderboards etc., so I wouldn't think the cost would be that high. I think I heard Stern use Amazon Web Services for Connect. camera stream will be needed,

Yeh, data would be fairly low, it certainly an interesting prospect, one that could increase longevity on a game
 
So some sort of webcam attachment on the head, pointing at the playfield, your turn plays out on the opponents LCD?

That would be cool, webcams are dirt cheap, JJP have them in the machines and I think there fun. Laughing at my terrible pictures scrolling along guns is always a highlight

I'm not sure anyone would want my mug floating about though, worse than Alec Baldwin
 
I've made similar posts on pinside and got some very negative replies from people I can only assume don't play video games. There's so many ways it could be done that would be super fun. For a start take a look at the pinclash comp that gets played every year for ideas. Personally I think Elimination ( a mode often seen in driving games ) would be perfectly suited, imagine if Instead of someone getting kicked every lap the player in last place would be eliminated maybe every 30 seconds. That would be incredible fun.

Obviously everyone has to have the same machine, that would be difficult with some machines but really easy with others, Godzilla for example.

Could stern pull it off? Looking at how laughably slow they've been with IC so far, I very much doubt it ( but I can hope! ).

Elimination would be great fun, sega did something I thought wasnt possible with the two player Vs outrun 2 , the second player took over in the same car and it was addictive, Vs pac man also surprisingly worked. So games that shouldn't work adapting can and I would put pinball in that category.

Depends on the company willingness, it's possible, perhaps that's the cool features there bigging up.

I think some in of it is they don't like change, pinball really hasn't changed at all since the 90s except for better sound and now video on a TV size set, well a 90s sized big screen 🤭
 
always liked how burnout on xbox used the camera. if you wiped someone out, it would take a snap of you, and that would be sent to the person you wiped out. Was fun

Played burnout but never noticed that, probably because I never had the camera plugged in. It was pretty useless
 
Elimination would be pretty cool, maybe the winner could take on Jack Danger or one of the designers or something

could have a semi realtime situation too, 24 hours to post up a game, which is them matched against an opponent of a similar skill level for them to beat.

I fear your right, like you I'm a bit out of the way in terms of meeting up and actually playing with others, its frustrating, as I'm sure it would be possible even with current tech, still Stern do need to do something innovative. Perhaps the recent lacklustre sales will force them.

Although on gursey if it's the same as jersey the internet will be a zillion pounds dictated by JT coms (I'm sure it's changed 🤭🙄😄)
