Hi fellas, for sale here is my Space Jam from Sega (bought out Data East, later bought by Stern) in 1996 - linky
this uses the Sega/Stern Whitestar boardset, so the same board layout as South Park, Lord of the Rings, TSPP, Sopranos etc, and it all works but it definitely needs some love and so can be considered a working project.
THE BAD
-some dufus has disabled the normal power for the fluorescent backbox tube and instead wired that straight into the mains just after the line filter; it had its own plug and socket inside the cab as you can see from the pictures. the tube itself, instead of being mounted, was suspended from some cable ties. i suspect the easiest fix here would be to put an LED strip in there instead, and connect it to the 12V from the power board.
-for some reason the power input from the wall to the transformer has a couple of wires cut and a bit of a bodge. i replaced the power cord as the old one was frayed, but i didn't tackle this - you can see it's working, but i suspect that will need some urgent attention.
-the playfield has an orange rectangle painted over an apparent dent/hole about half way up. if i was keeping it, i'd probably try to fix this with some homemade waterslide decals - or just ignore it. there's another place that has also had similar treatment, but that's away mostly out of view.
-CPU/sound board has been worked on in the past, probably was battery-leak-damaged. i can't guarantee how good a job was done, but it seems to be working now.
-no lock to coin door or backbox (backbox has some ghetto fix in place); wear below flipper buttons on the cabinet; lock down bar is horrible; the usual rusty old legs with knackered leg levellers; bashed up where the skill shot and the (working) magnet hoop shots are - see pics.
THE GOOD
-a cheapish DMD game that could be restored to a colourful family friendly pinball machine.
-will make you the envy of all your friends and frenemies
-that's it!
