Hi,

I am looking for some help or advice regarding my South Park pin..I haven’t used it in around a year and when I went to switch it on the DMD lit up ok but then the play field lights started flashing with a loud clicking sound…I opened the backbox and the first thing I noticed is that that batteries have leaked all over the CPU board, I’m going to assume that’s the reason it’s not working and I’m kicking myself for not checking it before now, the damage looks quite substantial (I’m no electronics expert) and I’m wondering if it can be repaired or would need completely replaced? The pin also sits in a very cold room so I’m not sure if that contributed, but the other boards look ok.

I’m attaching some photos in the hope that someone with some knowledge may be able to advise or help.

Thanks for any assistance 😊🙏

Wait until the experts reply but I reckon that board is now only fit for the bin 😖.
Seems to be recurring theme battery damage

Thanks for the reply.

I really hope it’s not bin time for this, I just don’t have the ££ for a new board and from what I have been reading they ain’t cheap 😢

Get the batteries off asap. Get some pickled onion vinegar and use an old toothbrush to scrub off all the crud. Dry board thoroughly. Pray that it works.

I scrubbed it with vinegar and a toothbrush, looks better but there might be damaged tracks..(haven’t tested it yet ) I managed to break off the battery compartment 😭but it looks like I haven’t damaged the track or board underneath it..will it work without that or would I be better buying an NVram?

@chuckychucks what's your soldering like and do you have the right tools (asking as you mention breaking the battery compartment off rather than de-soldering)? I suspect that board is uneconomical to repair if you sent it out to someone but if you can have a go yourself then it's worth trying, you can't really make it any worse  You'll need to de-solder a sh*t load of components though based on those pics, clean up the board with a mild acid and re-populate. I wouldn't spend any money on an NVram until you've confirmed whether the board can be salvaged.

Believe me, with my eyesight and shaky hands I can only make it worse 😂 years ago I would have had a go at repair but definitely not now, a guy I know on the German pinball forums sent me a repair manual but it’s too much for me..looks like it’s gonna be a wooden storage box until I find a reasonably priced replacement board (if that’s even possible)
