Smaug: Smorg or Smowg?

i always assumed it was pronounced smorg when i first read the hobbit back in
the 80s and ever since. i just for the first time watched a bit of the Peter
Jackson Hobbit film and they pronounced it smowg.

am i the only one? what is going on here?

yes me too, always been smorg, can't see why you would pronounce it smowg,unless your German
