SS Scared Stiff by Bally, a Pin that needs no introduction. In beautiful condition with nice patina, by no means your average pin. Plays absolutely superb too, extremely addictive game with everything working. I purchased the pin from a forum member only a short while ago and a true credit to him he not only brought this pin up to date with subtle mods and improvements, he enhanced it’s condition, that’s clear to see. The playfield does have minor wear but has been protected in the areas that suffer most so again I can't stress how beautiful it really is.

I did list on ebay (please put the pitchforks down) however respectfully withdrew in the hope it goes to a true enthusiast on here, so here it is.

Offered at £4500.

Further details (listed by the previous owner):

  • Custom skull shooter and shooter plate graphic
  • Auto Eddy board for the crate hit detection so no more lifting playfield to adjust (Original board included)
  • Mirror Blades (tight fit so Pinball Universe protectors are included for if/when you need to raise playfield)
  • 12v power board added to run your mods
  • LCD Colour DMD
  • Vertical up kick works 100% of the time
  • LED inserts and back box with incandescent GI - this combination works well for the dimming effects but makes the playfield inserts pop nicely.
  • Colour changing spider hole LED
  • Under Cabinet lighting
  • Rear back box lighting
  • Metal crate with all decals in tact
  • Anti air ball plastic on bat ramp
  • Flickering Candles Mod
  • Back board decal
  • Skill pile colour LED mod
  • Remote battery holder
  • Upgraded speakers & sub

I’ve polished and detailed as much as I can including the ramps, playfield etc. Genuinely gutted to see this go.

Viewing is most welcome, playing essential.

Nationwide delivery can be arranged.
All the best
Jason.

There is, and will never be any pressure to list things here. It is the seller and the seller only who decides where they should sell it... Well, in my book anyhow!

Far be it from me to argue with those that make the rules on this fantastic website, however . . . . .

It was sold on here within the last couple of weeks so context is surely important. The original seller (Andy) could have put it on ebay himself but listed it to keep it in the community. I know for certain 100% that he would never have sold it if he knew that it would be back up for sale on ebay within a fortnight.

Andy could easily have put it on an ebay auction with a reserve himself and made a tidy sum but he decided not to. Maybe it would have sold for the same or maybe it wouldn't, but it's not right that Andy lists something at cost to keep it in the family only to see it flipped with the potential for imediate profit (Quite possibly it wasn't about money at all and just a realisation that he didn't like the game but it was on auction rather than listed for the same price).

No offence to Neontron who's done the right thing by listing it on here. If it doesn't sell then he can say he tried and go and sell it on ebay with his head held high.

I purchased TWD from Mick for £4500 and had to get rid of it straight away. Would it have been against forum rules to list it on ebay and take £5k? No, but it would have been a massive p1$$ take on Mick and not a particularly nice way to do business.

It's either a community, a place to pick up machines and flip them or somewhere in the middle.

I like the community and have been seriously looked after by a lot of very decent people on here. Some helping out, some inviting me over to their house to play games, others producing mods at close to cost just for the love of the hobby and even very generous folk lending me pinball machines. This is without even mentioning the technical advice and time people freely offer as well as helping fellow forum members with deliveries and overseas shipping. Look at Colly & Davey who make these wonderful things for us to enjoy and charge the minimal amount which in no way covers their time. Chris & Keith repair peoples machines at less than minimum hourly wage, always going the extra mile and putting a lot of love into what they do.

It is a fantastic community and one that everyone should rightly be proud of, particularly those involved in the admin of the forum. However when put into context of a community that help one another, is it really right and proper to join up, take a machine at cost or loss then make a quick buck?

Not just a dig at Neontron. I think it shows bloody good character to take the ebay listing down and pop it back on here. Fair play, clearly he's a good guy and not too stubborn to change his mind. Let's also be fair and say that it's not just about newbies, I've only been on here 5 mins myself. There are one or two established members who are not averse to making a quick few hundred off fellow forum members. We've all seen pins purchased on here before and end up on ebay pretty quickly long before Neontron bought SS. At least he's done the right thing, good luck to him and good luck with the sale. It's a really nice machine which Andy maintained, modded and caressed 👀every nut and solenoid.

As far as I'm concerned, once you have sold a machine that is it. You have no right to try and dictate what the current owner does with it. If they want to list it the following day for a profit so be it, if they want to make a video of them setting fire to it, that's their choice.

When you sell it you, and the buyer, agree on a price that is mutually satisfactory. End of.

That still doesn't stop me from thinking that a lot of the machines advertised are vastly overpriced, but that's a different story.

Hi mate, by no means would I drive coast to coast to make a quick buc, flip it etc. My circumstances have changed (pic attached) I would LOVE to keep it

Hi mate, believe me I wouldn't drive coast to coast to squeeze a pinball machine in the back of a Passat (they don't fit) to flip and make a quick buc, not my style, I'm by no means the Mike Brewer of the pinball world. I actually love the game and the pin itself (as does everyone that's seen it) and I will be truly gutted to see it go however I was dealt a blow last week and as a result my circumstances have drastically changed (pic attached) and have to move home sharpish. I don't want to put the pin in to storage for many reasons and for one being utter sacrilege, it deserves better and I do genuinely want it to go to the right place. The only reason for using ebay is that the last few pins offered on here for sale such as Munsters, Walking Dead and the CV didn't get the warmest of welcomes which I didn't expect and I don't need any added drama at the mo.

However seeing that it caused upset I pulled the listing and put on here, if I had no respect for Andy or the community it would still be on ebay. As mentioned before, I was new to this again after collecting some 20+ years ago and the SS was something I intended on keeping, sadly I have no control over that.

Hope you're well, thanks for the kind remarks, hopefully it finds a good home on here.

Thanks, I appreciate that, you'll be glad to know I won't be setting it on fire :)

I agree with Wayne here. If someone sold a machine, they had bought from myself, and managed to sell it at a profit I wouldn't have a problem with that. Would I lose respect for that person- NO WAY. I wouldn't expect anyone to give me grief if I moved one on through another outlet and made a profit either. Btw if I do buy a Stern SM on here, I will upload the video of me dancing around as I 🔥 🔥 🔥 the fookin thing.

I pulled the listing and put on here, if I had no respect for Andy or the community it would still be on ebay.

I could very much see that. It would have actually been easier for you just to leave it on ebay than remove the listing. You're new to the forum and it was decent of you to give people the chance to buy it before it vanishes into the ebay abyss.

Wayne was of course correct when he said that 'nobody has the right to dictate'. That's not the same as being 'in the spirit of the community' though and it's great that you've given the community first refusal. 👍

For the record I didn't think that you were out to make a fast buck, I'd just have liked it to have been offered back into the community first considering it had just left. Most of my machines have gone to members or friends and at least 4 of them I could go and play now just by contacting the people. If everything went to ebay this place wouldn't be the same for me. Sharing the machines around is a massive part I believe.

Of course if I'd been stuck with a machine for a while and nobody showed any interest then I'd be looking at ebay too particularly if I needed the money.

It's a bit of a sore subject for me I'm afraid. I've been stitched up twice with pinballs and like to feel that this forum is a bit of a safe haven. Probably me being naive but I genuinely meant no offence and I sincerely hope that your circumstances change for the better.

Kris

The thing is that the majority of people who own a machine aren't even on here, (the same way that the majority don't (didn't) enter competitions).

Pinballinfo is just a small subset of niche hobby.

By selling only to mates, and people on here, it's not growing the community, but rather keeping it closed, almost like a cartel. There also seems to be a very defined pricing structure, which doesn't necessarily match the prices in the real world, in both directions.
To grow the community it would make sense to advertise machines outside of Pinside and then bring them in.

By selling via eBay or gumtree or whatever, it's not necessarily about getting a higher price it's about reaching a wider audience.
FWIW, my last machine I sold straight to a member here after they posted a wanted ad, previous machines I've posted a for sale and here and had timewasters asking for pics of the back of the back box ffs. 1 got sold after an operator/engineer had a client who was asking about the machine, 1 got part-exed for a NIB, others mainly went to people who I know IRL, mainly swapped for other machines.

the back box pic on sterns is a must now when you sell machines. if its got a mark on it is ex op so to many buyers "worthless"

If anyone has a stern with marks on the back rather than taking them to the tip il provide a free removal service and take all the hassle out of getting rid of a machine that's worthless ...pm me Tia 😜

GLWS Jason - wherever you find a buyer.

Looks like a really nice example - SS is not on my list of machines, mainly because Elvira is not cool with my wife and 2 daughters... and I can do whatever I like, so long as they say it's ok! :)

What you say makes sense mate. However I'd imagine anyone trawling the classifieds on ebay for a pinball has already decided upon that purchase and will become a member of the community if they wish regardless.

I don't find it cartel like at all and I'm in a good place to comment because I've only been on here a year. It's not a closed shop and so many on here always offer to help people out new or old.

I once purchased some alternative pinstadium lights from a fella on here. I use them every day but when they arrived there was everything that I'd ordered and paid for plus a battery pack and considerable number of batteries. The kind chap had written a note wishing me well and informing me that he'd found the additional items kicking around so included them anyway. . . . . that's the community spirit I was alluding to 😉

That pin was listed on here for some time before it sold it didn’t fly out the door odds are it may not have even made £4500 on e bay at the 99p list starting so the seller may have even made a loss

I had 3 buyers lined up, not everyone comments on the thread, lots of people use PM’s only. That’s why I sent Jason a message saying it’s a shame you didn’t offer it in the forum rather than eBay, no pressure or bad feelings, just thought it would be nice to offer it to the people that missed out first time round.

I thought Pinball was supposed to be almost extinct in UK?
Jeez..... it seems to be more popular than the Black Death in the mid 1300s :p

This is just bad timing I think, so many pins up for sale right now - dare I say that maybe eBay is the way to go with this one now, at least you were getting bids on there [emoji15]

Hi,

I did send you a couple of messages on this at the weekend. Are you still looking to move it on?

Have to say @neontron that if i were you i'd take it to ebay now. I offered my SS on here, got no takers, sold it on ebay within 3 days.

Sometimes its just not the right timing on here for people to want the machine you are selling. Sometime you can list something here and it will be sold within 10 mins!
