RIP Alan (Happypin)

Very sad news. I never met him but was obviously a great guy and played on his beautiful TZ at Pinfest last year….. RIP

Alan was an absolute gent and a great host when I visited him. Enthusiastic for others to enjoy his pins and sample his homemade pizzas too. So sad to hear this tragic news, may he rest in peace and may we all smile every time we think about him and how much he loved this hobby 🍻

I was so sorry to read this on Facebook 😭 He was such a lovely bloke and so open hearted welcoming us, as virtual strangers, to his home to play Pulp Fiction.

I chatted to him after that whenever I saw him because I always thought it might be the last time and, at the same time, he was so philosophical about his situation and he'd come so far that I hoped he'd continue to defy the odds.

I subconsciously assumed he'd be one of the people I'd have a quick chat with at Pinfest this year. Really sad I haven't had the chance to say goodbye.

All my thoughts are with his friends and family right now 🫂

RIP 💔

Just goes to show all the bickering, nastiness and bullying in this small community pales into insignificance to something like this.

Such a lovely man. We’ll do something to honour his memory.

Everyone should learn from Alan. Just be nice. Life is precious and way too short.

Damn what a dreadful loss.

Just really wanted to add how amazing Alan was. Such a kind and generous man, he did so much to help me . . . He was just that kind of bloke.

But to put a bit of perspective on things. The last contact I had with him was on Wednesday this week and the very last thing he said to me was about pinball.

He absolutely loved pinball and particularly from the social side of things. He loved a game of doubles on 4 ball and when the game was over he'd say "another one?"

Everyone will miss him, just a kind hearted bloke who would honestly do anything for anyone.

I never had the good fortune to meet Alan (Well - not knowingly!), only through here. Such a lovely guy.

In such a relatively small community, it's things like this that hit hard.

Rest in peace Alan 😢

Alan was a really lovely person. I attended a couple of his BBQ meets. He had such enthusiasm great his at showing you the rules

I’ve been friends with Alan for over twenty years and our first connection was the love of Jaguar Mk2’s with us both owning one, his was immaculately restored in which his eye for detail continued into his pinball restorations.

I Had never knowingly seen a pinball machine before let alone play one until he got his TZ several years ago and invited me over for a play. I’ve never been into gaming or arcades and didn’t want to say anything as I didn’t want to dampen his enthusiasm. He pressed the start button pulled back the twanger and hit the buttons with such joy, I had no idea what he was doing but he obviously did and was having great fun. He then stood aside for me to have a go, I wasn’t really interested and thought it was quite boring but persisted to have a go to please him. I played my first game witch was over in a flash but immediately hit start again for another go, this theme continued for the rest of the evening.

Fast forward a year or two and he had bought several more machines and every time I was over his way I’d pop in for a play, by this time I was hooked myself. After the first lockdown i bought my first pin which Alan had tipped me off about and within the next couple of months I had bought 3 more. After another purchase I decided to sell a game and offered to deliver it for the new owner. Alan didn’t want me to go alone and meet more pinheads without him so he came along for the ride. I also agreed to pick another game up for the buyer which wasn’t too far from me. There we met @Dave Bishop and co, and then off to Essex to Chris the new buyer to deliver them to his office. What a fantastic day that was as since that day we both made some very special friends and memories indeed.

Alan is the sole reason I’m into pinball and i will very much miss him. He was a fantastic man with such kind generosity and enthusiasm. He is the most optimistic person I have ever met and it rubbed off on me, I always left his company feeling upbeat.
This is a very sad time but I will play a game on my TZ tonight in his memory.

RIP Happypin

I had the pleasure of Alan’s hospitality when he had Pulp Fiction in his possession. Such a great guy, so passionate about everything he did whether it was restoring his pins or tending to his immaculate garden.
His brother Alfie was over as well and we had a wonderful afternoon of Pulp Fiction and sausage sandwiches.
Alfie my heart goes out to you, RIP Alan.

Never had the fortune of meeting Alan, but his positive attitude in the face of adversity always shone through RIP dude
