Reseating's just not enough

Hi

The sound's a bit goosed on my Getaway. I get the sounds, but no music or speech. Last night I reseated the ribbon cable at all points, a couple of times & ZZ Top & the voices came back. Turned it on today & was back to just sounds again.

What's the more permanent solution? Fibre glass pen on the contacts on all the boards, new cable, something else - preferably in increasing order of cost & hassle.

Try a new ribbon cable first. They can cause havoc.
I think @Fubar helped diagnose a similar issue once and it was the ribbon

Yeah give the contacts a good clean and if that doesn't sort it try a new ribbon cable.

Can you swap components with another machine ? I always find that a useful way to isolate problems.

Reseat
Fibreglass
Contact cleaner spray
Reflow solder to pins
New cable

Try reseating the sound ROMs, that cured a strange sound fault on my IJ.

Careful not to bend the pins when you put them back in if you take them all the way out, but no need to, just a little way out then push them back home.
