Just got one as my first machine and it has a couple of lights out so had a look under play field and the bulbs sockets look like I'd have to unscrew the brackets is this right or is there an easier way.

It depends. Most Bally's from this era some have sockets with long enough L brackets that you can bend them backwards to take the bulb out. They are fine to take a few bends, and by the time you've racked up enough bulb changes to worry about it snapping you should probably be changing the bulb socket anyway.
