Replacement back glass

I managed to break the back glass for my Roadshow when moving it.

Can anyone point me to the spec I can take to a glazier, or somewhere I can buy replacement glass?

Thanks

I would recommend a sheet of 3mm clear acrylic from trentplastics.co.uk. Cheap, safe and can be sent to you in the post.

Dunno I can't tell the difference once its in and I paid £7 for a sheet delivered.

OK great, did you give them the spec or is there a dedicated product listing on their website?

I can't see any mention of pinball. Do you have a link?

You tell them the size and they'll cut it.

It won't be long before pinball replaces glass entirely with plastic. New tech plastics are lighter, tougher, safer and probably also can be made to better soundproof I expect.

I like glass but I'll be happy to see the back of it in a few years tbh

Needs to be scratch proof first. Even general cleaning can leave micro scratches that builds up over time and then it looks terrible.

I think it will be a sad day when plastic replaces playfield glass. Hopefully Gary Stern isn't reading this or it might give him an idea for cutting costs on the next pro! :p

But why, @aaronhicksuk why?
I get the whole nostalgia thing believe me I do, but if something ever gets made obsolete by virtue of improvements.....? I've seen some fantastic fishtanks made of plastic that were strong, light and I think also scratch proof.

If they can replace a thing that we all know is heavy and prone to breaking and scratching and that we worry about breaking in transit or hurting our kids or cutting out hands on, then please replace away. It may be a backward step, like lead free solder or LEDs or LCD displays or ....... hang on you may have a point

I'd rather the planet poisoned itself to death than have to use lead free solder.

Nothing to do with nostalgia for me, I just don't believe a plastic exists that will do the job as well as glass does.

Weight savings on a pinball machine aren't really a concern for me, if anything heavier is better as it makes a pin feel more solid. Nothing is scratch proof but I think glass holds up better than most plastics I've ever seen. Toughened glass is actually pretty strong stuff as long as it isn't hit on a edge too. The most important factor for me is how it looks, have you ever seen a sheet of plastic with optical properties anything like glass? If you have, than how much does it cost?

Show me this wonder material with a mix of properties as good or better than glass and I say crack on but I won't believe it until I see it.

Oh and glass ages well, I've never seen a yellow playfield glass but loads of plastics! If plastics were at that level now wouldn't we see it used for windows in cars and houses etc?

Polycarbonate is probably the nearest contender to glass but its far more susceptible to scratches unless it has a scratch resistant coating applied. I don't think it looks as clear as glass does either and are you sure it doesn't yellow over time?

Hmmmm ok fair enough, I will wait another ten years (unless dead) for plastic playfield glass.

Backbox glass though, I think I'd happily replace it in all my games if I found a good local cheap supplier
