Random LOTR speaker corrosion

i installed some speaker lights in LOTR earlier and noticed both original speakers have started corroding.

I can't for the life of me see why or how. This game is very very tidy, not even a hint of moisture exposure and the boards are so nice I'd be inclined to frame them in future, or something. The Color DMD's unmarked.

Why or how on earth has this happened? I appreciate it's a 14(?) year old game now, so some crud is to be expected, but everything else is as good as new! I/O board has NVRAM fitted.

Both speakers are equally corroded.
