Ha - I did try setting an alias on my account to make it clearer who I am but doesn't seem to show up very well. I don't really associate the online name with the derivation so I not really consider changing it. Yes you can tell I use this site a lot...
If people want to confirm their attendance in the thread that would be great. If you don't have the address then let Andy or myself know and we'll pm the details
Plenty of spots available for anyone that's been hanging on
Sorry for the late confirmation - I am planning to come on Sunday still but I am afraid that George can no longer make it.
If @Wizcat or @PUP could PM me to confirm I still have my spot and let me know the exact address that would be appreciated...it's a long drive to find I've missed the boat ;-)
thanks to everyone who came, it was alot of work to get things organised and get all the games to play as well as I could but it became worth every minuite once I had a house full of like minded friends, really want to do this again sometime soon. My phone screen was already cracked but when I took it out my pocket to post on our whatts app group last night it was all full of lines and acting crazy so new phone on its way tmro. was so pleased to see everything go so well to plan, Big thank you to Paul @Wizcat for running our comps, Meal was fantastic they did us proud, good to see all joining in on the karaoke and the Ship lived well up to our expectations, and thanks to Steve K for his delicious biscuits. And finally a big well done to Ian who won the Target matchplay on the Sunday, beating me on my home-turf!!
Til next time peeps
Great weekend event, big thanks to Andy for hosting and Paul for organising and running. Also huge props to those who were at Pinhaus on the Saturday then Andy's on the Sunday, that's a heck of a drive over!
Thanks to everyone that came along at the weekend. A few made huge journeys which is really appreciated. We don't very often get the chance to do full weekends of comps up this end of the country, but I think it went down really well. Really good to be able to kick back and enjoy the evening with friends and drinks before coming back with mild hangovers to try again the next day
For me it was a chance to try out some formats that I haven't run before. It's always a little bit experimental no matter how many test runs I plug in beforehand! On Saturday, for our
Max Matchplay I hadn't anticipated just how hard Andy had set his own games, so people were flying through the round robin and I ended up extending it. Which I thought I'd gotten away with until it became clear how far behind Andy was lagging. In the end it didn't really matter. Andy was comfortably ahead of the pack and uncatchable by the time everyone had completed the set number of games (despite Andy not fully completing his games)
Well done then to Andy for being the Queen of PUPs Palace Max Matchplay! Ian and David were very worthy runners up
On Sunday we played Target Matchplay in four player groups. More distant travellers joined us from Claire and David's event the prior day which was great to see. I feel this comp went slightly smoother, and from my perspective it felt that it allows more socialising - both because of the four player groups, and also because of the pause between rounds.
I also enjoyed the ending of the target comp, with both Andy and Ian tied and only needing three more points to reach the target, the last round was critical. Ian put up a strong score on Jurassic Park, which was impressive in his group with David, who was also in the chase. Andy was surely a shoe in to also win his game on Spectrum, one of his all time favourite games - but Steve was having none of it! Steve's win bumped Andy into second! The final three being a repeat of Saturday's event is no coincidence - some great players and close matches. Well done all!
Great stuff, really enjoyed it. Huge thanks to Andy for putting this on, and hopefully we'll have more events like this up this end of the country in due course!
