Premier/International Concepts (AKA Gottleib) Night moves - Time to get it up and working again....

For several years now i have had a Night Moves, and due to house moves/other priorities havent really had chance to get it all up and running. Since I'm still poorly with Covid/Flu (or whatever it is!), figured i could use a little of the time trying to get it up and running before the new year, when i have a few people coming.

Ive only been playing with this for a few hours now, and I'm not sure if it's the slightly older Tech than i'm used to, or the fact that there's so many variables (and lack of coherant manuals!), but i'm starting to loose the will to live already. I dont seem to have the same issue with B/W.... those were always so well documented!

So when i got mine several years ago, as is so very common, the battery on the MPU had leaked all over the PCB, and made a complete mess. I dont mind giving those a go to try to fix, however this was bad - so much so I picked up one of @myPinballs system80B boards.
I managed to get that fitted, however it did nothing at the time, so the machine got conseigned to the "when i get around to it" pile.
There was no-one more surprised as me that when i fired it up earlier that it sprang into life... well... it booted!!

However all is not perfect, as expected. It boots to this (see video below) :

The "explosion" noise at the end of the vid is where i tried to start a game. Credit taken, and nothing happens (even with the balls in, which they werent in the above!)....

I can get into the Service menus, and it seems to run through the tests ok - the only thing in there which concerns me is :

Have run the Roms off twice now (unfortunately the ones ones I have are the ones on IPDB).... does anyone have any known good ones please i can try??

Other than this i am at a loss... where do i go from here??!!!

I’m on hols now til jan but,

Step 1 check the board is setup for a 2732 rom 2 on the rom dip switch . See manual here - https://www.mypinballs.com/electronics/instructions/mypinballs_80b_cpu_config_doc_v1.08.pdf page 1 and upload a pic of it so i can check its set correctly. I try to supply all boards these days with roms included as it really does cut down setup problems.

Also send the checksum of the image you have and i will check it against the known good file i have here.

Also a game 'hanging' after you press start is 99% the switch matrix and connectors issues, specifically the trough switches. Have you re-pinned all switch related connectors??

I think i did mention all this years back, but its been too long now to remember.

Also remind me what programmer you use for burning Roms and the 2732 roms you have, as these old roms can be very stubborn to programmer correctly because of the high voltage program level needs that 5v usb programmers can’t create properly

Really appreciated - thank you Jim

Checksums i have are.....

Prom1 (2764) - 000D33D8
Prom2 (2732) - 0006390D

Whilst i have repinned all grounds, and run separate grounds to each board.... I havent re-pinned any of the connectors hanging off the MPU/Driver boards. I do have some of the Bifuricated pins if you think it would be worthwhile. Do you think we are talking MPU board J5 & J6 here??

I think i did mention all this years back, but its been too long now to remember.

You probably did - however best i start afresh - I do remember that when i initially set it up it didnt work at all, so somethings obviously fixed itself :D

GQ 4x4 - has hapilly programmed +21v in the past reguarly.... It does state that if during programming there are issues it would need an external power supply - not encountered it yet though... Roms all pass verification after programming (compares whats on the the chip to whats in the buffer...)..

<<M2732A>>
External power needed if write fail.

Thank you

Getting a major case of deja vu here lol !

Pretty sure I told you before you cannot program old 2732 roms reliably without a more expensive programmer and/or an external power supply . 2732 roms need 21v min usually to program and 5v usb just won’t cut it. Also cheap programmers often verify roms incorrectly to unless you program at the slowest speed.

So , send me the roms you programmed and I will double check them in my dataman pro and burn you new ones if these ones are bad.

The rom dip switches look ok, and the header pins you linked to are correct at rs for the single sided connectors. These single sided connector pins are still readily available as they are used in other molex connectors to

So i need to finish the story of this one.....

Jim was kind enough to run me off some roms (since as above 2732's are notourious for giving issues)... however this still showed the same problems..

Worked my way around the machine, double checking Grounding (as i had done the grounding mod), Replacing the 5v PSU "just in case", and then swapping back again... Checked power was supplied to all boards etc.

Finally I had got to a place where i was sure things were as they should be, and was starting to go around in circles.

I asked Jim if he could take another look and confirm the MPU was working ok, since i still had the "Rom Error". He found a possible issue, tested it again and sent it back....

And as if by magic.....

Awesome! Kudos and a massive thank you to @myPinballs for...

2. Helping me battle my way through all the possible issues!

Another Machine Saved!!

It is always awesome to see another 80b saved and coming back to life. Not enough gottlieb 80b music in the world!! haha

This one was a long journey one, but we solved it. I am always happy to look at any 80b issue regardless , all good :)
