Hi

Anyone have experience with powder coating their metalwork on their pins?

Been quoted £220 for siderails, lockdown, hinges, and legs. That's without them stripping back the original paint. I thought these places would also strip metal but I have no idea now.

Any advice appreciated

That is very expensive. Prices do tend to vary wildly though, I know some on here get a full set done for under £100, my average is more like £150. I need to find a new local powder coater, the guy I used seems to have closed down. Usually powder coating guys also have the shot blasting equipment to strip paint etc and prepare surface for coating, all included in the price.

There used to be a drunk guy I would give £50 cash and a box of parts for powder coating, and he would have them done including acid dip / sandblasting in 2-3 days.

I miss that guy!

But £220 excluding prep is insanely expensive.

I would expect to pay £100-£200 including prep, depending on how exotic the powder you want to use is.

Try searching for terms other than powder coating, like metal coating, metal finishing or electro plating ( may do powder coating too ).

I use a local company and have done for 20 years, £4 an item sand blasted and powder coated 🤷‍♂️

I have satin black, a specialist colour will be more of course.
