Postage Strikes WTF!

Well it seems these one day strikes have some sort of knock on effect causing backlogs as both receiving parcels and sending them if effecting me more than a day for sure. All my mail goes 1st class and is taken to the main sorting office counter by myself yet large letters are taking 4 days in some cases!
Today I sent 6 packets via 1st class all large letter and it will be interesting to see just how long it takes. what an absolute ballache.
Recieving is just as bad my pair of sinden guns took 4 days to arrive via 48hr RM and i was sitting at the letterbox each morning in anticipation grrrrrr.
 
Staying the obvious here but the point of strikes is to cause disruption. I don't know enough about their reasons but my Postman agrees with the strike and it's not an easy decision when you lose a day's pay each time.
 
I only found out recently they collect from your house for free, even small DVD sized parcels. Tried it today for the first time with a Megadrive I sold on eBay and they collected it in the agreed time slot.

I normally walk to the Post Office but for anything large I'm going to use this service, saves me getting the car out and queuing up.

I’ve seen this but never used but TBH I enjoy the journey along the riverside from my house using my EUC and often extend the journey if it’s a nice day.
Gets me out in the fresh air of nowt else and away from berthas stinky breath 😝
 
I think the free collection is a special offer thing until the end of the year, its good though as it makes it more convenient that Hermes and cheaper in some instances as well.

Ah yes, you are correct, maybe they'll extend it. There are times when I'd pay a little extra for collection on certain occasions for the sake of convenience, especially as I'm working from home.

It’s hard to notice when our postmen go on strike.
We very rarely get anything on a Saturday but then get a **** ton of post on Mondays and another load on another day of the week.
Collection from the delivery office is bizarre. They used to have a 1pm cut off on Saturday which was a PITA now it’s extended but they are only open for 2 hour stretches spread across the day.

I doubt younger people would believe that 30 years ago there was still a “second delivery” each day.

I’m still trying to work out if next weeks train strike is just taking out the trains or the tubes as well. I’ve got to make it to Brixton for a gig on Saturday. On a map it’s hardly any distance from me but going east west is virtually impossible on the buses so requires a trip into central London and back out on the tube.
 
Within the RM network as a whole most of november is basically a strike. Should be fun.

Can argue whos fault it is all day long but ultimately the company is going down the toilet and no one will have a job left.
 
I don't even use them anymore because they're unreliable. Not quite hermes standard but there are a number of companies who I trust more.
 
RM are shocking here. I take a parcel to the local postoffice and they have to call Parcelforce to come and pick it up!!

Postie is excellent tho...

That's how I'm sending out all my Tokyo Neons. My poor postie has to come with four massive bags every week or so to pickup the latest run!

He'll be getting a nice chrimbo pressie this year 🎁
 
Royal Mail, apart for the recent strikes, are my favourite. I have used them for the majority of my ebay sales. i’ve been selling stuff on ebay since 1999 and have sent stuff all over the world. literally hundreds of records, memorabilia and collectible toys, only had one thing get lost - in usa (but i believe they buyer actually got the item but claimed he didn’t). Only had one thing damaged in transit in uk by RM (my poor packing). I really can’t fault them.

on the other hand. hermes damaged several packages i’ve sent and lost two others and UPS who i used to highly rate, failed to find the delivery addresses on two occasions and the. tried to bill me extra !!!!

Royal Mail all the time now for me. Special D service is fantastic.

I don’t use parcel force. so can’t comment

I've been using them to send a few items every week for the last few months, no issues and convenient with a post box and Post Office in walking distance, plus the free collection service. I trust them more than any of the others.

I dropped a Megadrive game in the post box at 18:30 and it was delivered the next day, unbelievable.

For some people they won't miss them until they are gone.

Speeding fine received after 14 days (Quick recap)​

The police have up to six months to issue you with a speeding fine. But they can only fine you or add penalty points to your licence if they had previously sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) to the registered vehicle owner. The NIP must have been received within 14 days since the date of the alleged speeding offence.

If the NIP was received after 14 days, the offender cannot:

  1. Be fined for speeding
  2. Be subject to penalty points
  3. Be summoned to court and prosecuted
 
Sadly not the same for box junctions etc. I got a fine a couple of years ago about 2 months after the offence. I’m still waiting to get the joy from Croydon.

I've not looked it up to double check, but I'm pretty sure there are legal exceptions to this rule for things like postal delays, incorrect address on your licence etc, and that the police just need to argue it would/should have reached you in 14 days under normal circumstances.

There probably is otherwise they would send signed for/special delivery but I bet a good solicitor would get you off somehow, most people would just take the hit though.

The quote above was from a solicitors site I think.

Defo. Even simply taking it to court might result in it being dropped tbh. I know someone who was caught over the limit and then involved in an accident with another person. He got a good lawyer, who only got to the stage of asking the police to prove that their equipment was properly calibrated. In court, the police/prosecutor realised they hadn't provided the requested info before they reached court, and requested a deferral. The judge refused and the case was thrown out, then, to add insult to injury, the person's lawyer asked that the prosecutor pick up the defendant's legal fees, and the judge agreed. So all in all, a complete waste of thousands and thousands of pounds of taxpayer money - which just came about because the defendant could afford a decent lawyer, who played the odds of the police/prosecutor not being able to their collective acts together.
 
I googled when the next RM strike was.
Is said we’d/Thurs/Fri next week so I messaged my granddaughters mate who’s a manager at the big sorting office in Leicester. Her reply is below.

Its not everyone for 3 days, one day it’s processing, one day it’s fleet and one day it’s delivery, it’s called a rolling strike,
