Do folk know what day rates are for plumbers please?, in the East Midlands. No doubt South Eastern rates will be higher

Just been quoted £250 a day from a guy in the pub to fit a new pressurised hot water tank, remove old header tanks from the ceiling etc

As above but with a guideline, 250 is about right but id expect them to estimate how long and what problems might arise that could push the time/cost factor....

Thanks guys.

I have quite a few jobs that need doing unfortunately as I do some modest property development on the side.

I was hoping to get to a sensible costing structure, then simply use the same guy on a number of future occasions. I have got to this point with an electrician, and mini digger guy so far

That fact could be a good negotiating tool as there is some repeat work there. I've had good luck arranging things through a builder friend. He can always add the "he's a good, quick payer" bit which tends to draw the price down a bit. Plus you know you're getting a recommended person who won't mess you around.
