Wanted Pinball machine

You've done well there. Shadow is a 'player's game' rather than a title that gets all the headlines, as it is hard. Hard as Vinnie Jones after you spilt his pint.

Loads of shots, unique and mesmerising lock mechanism. Unique and stylish phurbas that turn two ramps into four. Several modes (inc decent video mode and hidden laugh mode), several multiballs, excellent and original upper playfield, several ways to play it (multiball or vengeance or inner loops), a great wizard mode. It is like BSD in that it will kick your ass 9 times out of 10 but when it all comes together, it's addictive and rewarding. I'd have another Shadow myself one day for sure.

Everything in life is a compromise, it is down to personal choice and budget as to how many compromises you make.

If you can find 3 grand then get an Addams Family, the perfect one pinball in a collection machine. If your budget is more like £1,500 get a Shadow.

Shadow is very good as a player's game. The main compromise with Shadow is the translite art. If the Shadow had better art, it would also be a 3 grand game.

My Shadow has a replacement translite and speaker panel by Aurich. If you can get hold of one it totally transforms the look of the game.

Yep, when I playing I'm watching the balls (no Dan!), not at how bog eyed Alec Baldwin can look.

Not everyone loathes the look of Alec Baldwin. He did get to marry and produce offspring with Kim Basinger after all.

Would everyone here choose shadow over terminator 3 an or flimpstones

Well is always like a challenge will keep me entertained for a while

It's up there with Dracula and Iron Man in terms of difficult games that keep you coming back for more. The Battlefield and ramp diverters are also really cool features that you won't find on any other machine

Yep, buttons for the volume are inside the coin door.

Remember though that whilst the game volume can be adjusted, coil noise cannot (unless you're really desperate) :)

Indeed. If you have never experienced a pinball machine in home environment be prepared for a surprising amount of noise from the solenoids clacking away - if you have thin walls/neighbours the noise can be a real issue.

Volume related thing on the Stern Whitestar system that caught me out.

On LoTR I had the volume set normal but when it went into a mode or in particular a multiball it would jump up massively. Didnt realise there is a sound booster option for such things and it was set at the maximum level (10) so quickly put it down to 0 :)

Also once you have played the shadow for a while, watch the movie..

It makes it much better (wouldnt be hard, to be fair)
Shadow is still one of my grail pins, even though I have reache dthe final battle a few times on site, still kicks my ass the next time i play it
