So I have been using as recommended on this site Paul (I think it was) to cover my pinball outbuilding and my 20 machines, for years.

Last year my home contents, building and cover for the pinball shed and machines was around £1,000 pa, this renewal they want £3,500+!

It looks like insurance firms are now really taking the P...

Any recommendations from folks?
I am tempted to not insure the shed....

I’m in a similar situation. My renewal was huge (not on you scale!!) I went with it though but another hike this year and I think I’ll have to risk not having them insured.

I was thinking the same last year before I moved house due to massively increasing cost, for which was only indemnity cover (second hand value). For the new place, seven will be inside the house again, so intended doing a normal reinstatement cover policy with high excess, declaring the pinball values equivalent to new pro's from Pinball Heaven. In future, only lower value pins in the garage uninsured. In 26 years of insurance security surveys, I've never come across a pin being stolen from a private residence and more likely at risk of fire/water ingress or flood (depending on where you live) subject to the condition of your outbuilding...

Yeah theft highly unlikely .
It’s fire , flood or building collapse I guess. Up to you to weigh up chances of any of those happening. I’d like to think very very small.

I think in my 20+ years in the hobby I recall one guy here who’s basement flooded and damaged machines.

Edit / Rant ….Also keep in mind insurers are absolute bar stewards and will try to wriggle out of paying up on any claim via small print so make sure it’s written in stone and triple checked. Happy to take your payments, not so happy to pay out.
Been messed about on travel and home insurance claims before.

I have been on this site for a number of years and have never responded to anything regarding insurance as that is my work and pinballs are a hobby and I have not wanted to mix them. However in the last twelve months there has been a dramatic change in the attitude of insurers in the household market as well as other areas and as a result substantial increases in premiums . If in certain limited cases any one needs some help I will try and assist. If you wish to send a pm please contact me

We had a friendly insurer who understood the risks of pinball, but the replacement is treating them the same as other high value items. All in the name of treating consumers fairly!! ie same pricing for all.

What happened to the "friendly insurer" Ian?
