im getting a tingly feeling from anything metal on both SS and TAF, almost like a current is running through them. Could it be anything to do with the 99p converter plugs I've got stuck on the end of the French power cord?

Pinball grounding Issues?

Be very careful I had the same issue on a DE Star Wars that had no earth on the plug that was attached I could feel exactly what you are describing... First dibs on SS if you electrocute your self 
Change the kettle leads 1st
change the lead as already said jonathan
Just cut the plug off and put a UK plug on it.
Don't risk your life for pinball Jon, put an earth on it asap
Starts shovelling earth
As has already been said above, you are much better putting a proper UK plug directly on the wire.
I earthed my EM, can't be too careful where lecky is concerned.
