Hi everyone. I got round to taking some pics of my POTO to show you guys. Some pics were taken with the flash on and some off. Playfield glass has been removed so I could get some close ups of the playfield. *WARNING LOTS OF PICS* I have the cards that sit either side of the flippers safe somewhere, I just couldn't find them for these pics. You can see the extent of the paint peel on the Phantom's mask and hat. Also the hangman has pretty much gone also. Still, not bad for 1990 pin I think.
Anyway, onto the pics.

Lovely machine! Thanks for sharing the pics!

Looks like you'll want to replace a few screws that have rusted on the playfield etc.

I love that it has a sticker on the side that says "This game features the worlds first TYFFASI Solid State Flippers" :)

"Take your f*cking flippers and shove it" Williams :)

A thing of beauty.
Many thanks for sharing pictures of a truely lovely machine.
If you ever do decide to sell I would be very interested.

Excellent photos. We should do more threads like this actually - personally I'dlike to see the same for TSPP and ACDC. No sh1ty, out of focus, ***** photos though :)

this aint Ebay - no "sh1ty, out of focus, ***** photos" here....

May i suggest that anything like this be placed in the gallery and linked to here?? Just a suggestion, doesn't mean you cant.... just cos it's there.... :D

Many thank-you's for the replies guys. I really appreciate them and was glad to share the pics with the community. I'm really glad you like them. Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place though. I will be sorting out the tarnished metal parts/screws etc in the coming weeks and 'trying' to do something about that paint peel. I might be able to salvage it somewhat, well at least stop it from getting any worse anyhow. I'd noticed there was a bulb out in the phantom's right eye so that'll have to be replaced. I shouldn't have let it get to this state but I didn't know better back then. Still, I'm glad I have it at least :)

The flaking is on the front of the glass not the rear.
Please don't use anything to try and fix this as nothing will. The only fix is a new decal that you stick on the front of the glass yourself.
Its a decal kit you got when the machine was new to either hide the Phantoms face with a mask of not, also there were the hang man and the out line around the scores window.
Do not use any Krylon on the glass is is not for what you need.

Interesting. I'm confused tho - that hanging man figure on the backglass ... really looks like paint peeling off on the rear of the glass ???

They are like the modesty decals like what you got on Elvira games to cover up her cleavage. Only on POTO it was to hide the Phantoms face and not to show a man being hanged. Family mode might better explain it.

OK. But if you closely at the pics above - the actual artwork of the hanged man is peeling off .....not whatever decal may or may not have been put on the front of the glass to obscure the hanging man.

I have two backglasses, one with the decals fitted and one without.
Hoprfully this answers your questions.

Without.POTO 008.jpg and with.POTO 009.jpg

I think he looks better with the mask, especially when the bulbs flicker on and off, you get a pretty cool effect. Yes like replicas says, the mask, his hat, some of the 'phantom' red writing and the hangman are decals on the front of the glass. My back of glass is fine, it's just the these front decals that are peeling.

Ahh ok. Good news that the back is fine ! Yep no need to seal then. I guess its a case of removing the decals if they are bothering you, or maybe sourcing replacements ....I have no idea on availability of these - suspect pretty scarce/unobtanium unless they have been repro'd.

Lovely pictures.
That is a pretty unsightly face to put on a pinball machine, no wonder they had a mask sticker.

There are a few to the set and impossible to find. Even to get pictures I would think everyone's has some issue with one or more of the decals.
I do have a new mask decal, but I am in need of the surround for the score Windows to have a perfect backslashes.
Hopefully some time in the future they will be 're made.

Scan it,put it somewhere on here as resource for others?
If no scanner, bring it down mine next time ya wanna play MOP :)

I hear the scans/decals were available a good few years ago but If you got one matey please scan it! They're like rocking horse poo. I might try to stick the peeling edges down as the paint hasn't cracked in some places, just lifted. Any ideas what to stick it with?

Flaking paint? - use Krylon Tripple thick as previously mentioned.

Flaking sticker? - I'd try using Prit stick

I saw these first hand at Daz's last night.

The stickers are effectively a super thin brittle plastic (similar to say an insert decal) If you so much as touch them then little bits break off. Krylon'ing the front of your glass would look terrible, but it does seem like if it was not sealed with something then it is all just going to drop off over tim
