Can you confirm the timings for this please?
I know it's doors open at 10:00am but does the comp start at 10:30am or 11:00am? - not clear on this thread or matchplay (unless I've mis-read it, which wouldn't be unusual)!

Competition starts at 11am but you will need to arrive beforehand to register.
Any more players on the fence that want to sign up? 30ish players so far (including some who have not registered yet but will come)
Only the 2nd PBR comp since the reopening, and a rare chance to level the playing the field on the classics against a mix of adults and kids. Should be an exciting comp - looking forward to it.

Thanks to Matt for running today's competition - it was a lot of fun, and good to see lots of people at PBR with 39 competitors, including many juniors, and also quite a few members of the public just visiting, again with plenty of youngsters.
Well done to Martin Bedford qualifying in joint top position with Nathan, and a special mention for Michael Aw who qualified 4th (and beat his dad, @Jackpot in the process) winning the junior comp - great performance!

Yes thank you Matt and team PBR for another great comp, tonnes of fun and great to see the place so busy, and somehow I think you'd managed to cram even more games in than my last visit! Michael Aw in particular was on absolute fire all day long it was great to see
I will probably start posting the monthly PBR tournament reports on pinballinfo as well as FB to raise visibility. It was a really fun comp!
PBR Classics 2024 - Tournament report
Vince comes through when it counts to deny Rojas - 9 yr old Michael Aw takes 6th
A packed crowd of tournament players and recreational visitors meant a buzzing vibe for PBRs second ever weekend tournament at our new venue. Across 7x3 rounds of classics, which went from 11am-5pm with a break for lunch - everyone had a chance, and there was a fun mix of families, newer players and tournament veterans trying their luck with the 8 best qualifying for a group matchplay ladder playoff series with 1 game a round.
It was an interesting day to say the least - after round one the unexpected leader was Tony Greenwood after a perfect 21 point round. After round two, the surprise name at the top of the standings was young Michael Aw, who had just turned 9 one week ago. He had started the competition on a flier with 2 wins and a second against formidable tournament veteran Greg Mott and then came up against Matt Vince in round 2, somehow taking 3 straight wins over him with a headline 1.5M on Cheetah. Michael held his nerve going into the 3rd round lunch break to lead the standings alongside TVs Nathan Garwood, who is fast becoming a real force at the classics.
In the second half Nathan continued his strong play; he was joined at the top by Classics specialist Martin Bedford, who had been tipped for a strong tournament. They both finished joint top, securing a double bye straight to finals.
The dangerous American Rojas, not usually a fan of the classics, had brought his A game and qualified 3rd with a 700K masterpiece on Mata Hari. Meanwhile fueled by snacks and drinks, Aw Junior did not fade after lunch - securing the 4th qualifying spot and a semifinal bye in an astounding performance (usually much preferring Roblox and Lego to pinball)
On the other hand, PBR regulars Aw senior, Matt Vince and Stan Simpson were all struggling to string anything together. Round 7 pitted Matt and Yuen in the same group with only one realistically able to still qualify - and it was Matt who came through to join the ladder alongside the in form Clive Bush, Anton Stewart and Conrad Chambers.
Skateball was the first playoff game; Conrad put up a massive ball 1 (near 500k) to start and when Matt near matched this, it looked all over with Anton and Clive on next to nothing with one ball left. But Anton was not done yet, and perhaps with the flashiest pinball display ever seen on a copy of Skateball he worked his way all the way back, falling agonisingly short by 20K of qualifying when just one more scoop shot would have taken him through.
Matt and Conrad progressed to the semi final to take on Ed and Michael on Robot. In a cagey but skilful battle, all the players managed the robot bridge but it was Rojas and Vince who moved on with Michael's fairytale run finally ending in 6th and Conrad taking another strong finish in 5th.
The final was on Stargazer - nerves and multiple house balls meant that after ball 2, only Rojas had a decent score (300k). However the Machine is never done if he has one ball left and, as yet again he summoned up strength in the clutch to move to 400K+ and leave Ed needing 100K more. After a some quick reactions and saves, an agonising tilt left Rojas 70K short. Garwood had one more chance but came up short after a series of outstanding nudges to get him to 250k.
Final results:
1st Matt, 2nd Ed Rojas, 3rd Nathan and 4th Martin Bedford.

Haha, good stuff mate. I'll be there on the 3rd of next month to get some practice in on a bunch of machines I've never played. Hopefully can get some tournament action there too in December. Congratulations to your boy Michael, that'll make him feel great

In the Ladies division, Lucy came out on top with Sarah 2nd and Diane 3rd!
And finally there was the battle for the wooden spoon. In a close fought contest, Ben Leigh went home with the prize
It was a first for us to play 3 games per round and I was very pleased with the timings on the day but any feedback from the event would be gratefully received.

Great fun as always, I messed up in a couple of rounds but not unhappy being tied with @Jackpot at the end - Yuen is now finding out the joys (and stress) of having to stay for the finals because his son out-qualified him 
(both Michael and James were playing really well).
I played well at times (inconsistent as usual) - my best game was probably actually tap passing on Meteor for the fully lit spinner, though I think being able to get second place on Magic having had three house balls and zero flips was my luckiest!
