Hi all, provisionally sold my game but not on the forum- contacted interested buyer off the back of an EBay enquiry. Buyer wants to pay via PayPal which is connected to his business. After a quick look online, it appears to have been dissolved earlier this year. If I request Payment from this PayPal account, receive funds, allow pin to leave via Hadfields or similar- can PayPal reverse payment or withhold / withdraw. Guy seems genuine and seems to be now operating as a sole trader rather than Ltd so still uses same PayPal account. Thoughts please? Should I just insist on BACS?

Just to clarify- not using EBay in anyway shape or form to conclude sale- too difficult to discuss sale with buyer due to them blocking comms

To be honest if he wants you to send it via courier you need a proper electronic tracking information system.
Martin or Hadfields can not offer this.
IF he doesnt send it friends and family - then he can get the money back for the most stupidest of things

IF HE REALLY WANTS IT - HE WILL FIND A WAY TO PAY YOU. OTHERWISE RUN A MILE !!!!!

Insist he pays friends and family via PayPal. Otherwise he can claim the money back and you have to prove you delivered the goods.

Or: eBay selling is now free for private sellers. So do it via eBay as you have more protection. Or just take cash in collection

If he's savvy enough to use PayPal he should be savvy enough to use internet banking.
Say it was Hadfields- would they contact my buyer and confirm they have the game ready to go onto their transport - buyer pays me via internet banking- I let the game leave. Will that work? Will the funds appear straight away? Or if he paid PayPal- how can I tell if he’s paid friends and family from my end? Sorry for so many Q’s

Why didn't you conclude the sale on eBay as there are now no fees?
Couldn’t contact him to clarify when he’s able to collect before accepting offers - pin needs to go this week while I’ve got time off work. Was gonna take it off sale if that wasn’t possible as I’m busy with work until the new year after this week

Do not allow payment by paypal, even friends and family can be reversed by a chargeback from his banking provider. Do not assume having a delivery address means you can find him, we've had a case locally of deliveries being made to a car park and picked up by vans.

How desperate can you be to sell the machine with lots of risk attached?

Thanks to those who’ve helped and replied to my dm’s ref this and other dumb questions- I’ve not got much experience in selling online. Always appreciate constructive advice from our community 👍🏻. Pin going nowhere unless money is in my bank account - let’s see what happens next

eBay buyers get more protection than sellers nowadays.
I was referring to the way ebay does protect you when a buyer collects an item - you ask for the "code" ebay gives the buyer, as seller you then enter the code to ebay to confirm the collection has taken place. - so buyer cannot claim for non-receipt of the goods. it works very well. They buyer could still ask to return the item, but again they have the reverse problem - proving they returned it. As a seller you can raise a claim if the wrong good or damaged goods are actually returned (and no one is going to return a heavy pinball via a tracked postal service - so the buyer runs the risk of having no proof of return!). To me this all stacks in the sellers favour (for a change!)

Agree Alan, has worked for me on several sales, even if a third party (courier, friend collecting etc.) has had to provide the code on buyers behalf. Still last resort on a pin sale though.

Dont forget. Hadfields do not give you electronic tracking. Paypal wouldnt accept this in a case.
Also Hadfields wont confirm this and that with sellers and buyers. They are too busy.
Martin doesnt give electronic tracking either.

If he wants the game he will find a way

Put it back on the ebay market. Put put cash on collection only! Protect yourself ÂŁ2.5k is a lot too lose

Also for the eBay buyer return tracking, there is nothing stopping them putting a turd in a box and sending it to You tracked and giving ebay that tracking number, I doubt ebay are going to spend too much time looking into it and say the buyer returned it based on the tracking information.

At which you would have to get the police involved as it would be fraud, and also they had sent you a turd in a box.

He’s paid me into my bank account directly so I’m happy and he’s happy- thanks all 👍🏻

I think this thread is useful though as EBay keep changing things and PayPal seems to be a minefield too

Just as an aside, ebay no longer allow cash on collection/pickup since 1st October (except for cars I think).

I'm not sure how it is enforced though, but that's what I've read.
