Cabinet is now filled and sanded to a decent standard and ready for a coat of primer.
Any advice please on the best paint to use and technique.

I haven't got a spay gun so it'll have to be a small roller.

Thx in advance!

I'd use rattle cans over a roller tbh :) Car paints from Halfrauds will do for the primer (although probably cheaper to order online) and possibly the colours depending on what you're after. What game is it that you're painting?

I'm assuming your going to make stencils so car paint rattle cans will be your best bet. You'll probably want some sort of Ivory for the base colour rather than a bright white. Blue and red should be simple enough and then it's just a case of whether your going to have a go at replicating the webbing :)

I got a load of car primer off eBay and it was far far cheaper than Halfords.

As for application; spray is the way to go. I tried with a gloss roller and it left a texture which, whilst not hideous, would have shown through the decals I suspect. In the end a friend very kindly sprayed it for me in his spray bay and it's come out lovely.

Np, your machine is really interesting, you should start a shop log on here, add photos and ask questions as you go in the log.

You will pay top dollar for those.
Standard rattle cans will be way cheaper and give just as good results.

+1 on spraying the exterior, and use satin.

You can happily use a roller for the black interior of the cabinet though.

Is it worth spraying some filler primer on for a better finish?

Depends how good of a finish you want :D The more time you spend on the prep the better your final finish....depends on what you're after

After a decent end product that the wife will let me site in the dinning room without aggro.

Will start a progress thread when I get chance with it being my first.

I've recently started experimenting with filler primer. It does give a beautifully smooth finish but if you like to see wood grain on parts which do not have decals over them then don't use filler. Personally, I prefer a smoother cabinet even if that's not 100% true to the original.

Ya know - I used some filler primer. It was crap - not that much different to normal primer. If i didnt buy it myself, i wouldnt know that it was different to normal primer!!

If you have time @PeteB , it'd be great to see the difference in pics or a vid between normal prep and this filler primer, and what else you have to do to it afterwards (if anything) to make it perfect, like more sanding - maybe put it in one of your shop logs. Personally I'd always be looking for a perfect finish too - this product sounds really good.
