Paint finish

I am about to repaint the cabinet of my Williams Teachers Pet and was wondering which paint finish to use. Unfortunately it is too badly worn to work it out by looking at it! I'm sure it wouldn't be a full gloss or Matt, but would a satin or silk finish be best?
