Outhole kicker not working

The outhole kicker on my LW3 has just stopped working. Outhole switch is working, but the kicker won't fire in the coil test. When I was playing it earlier I think there was a slight burning smell, could the coil have locked on and burnt out? All fuses have tested fine. What's best to test/replace?



Any help appeciated.
 
Check the complete mechanism as they do sometimes go out of line so the pivot pin that pops out the ball gets stuck thus when it tries to kick out all the armature is out of position preventing coil to operate correctly,and they do get crap stuck in pivot arm that slows the mech

Wiring tested good and the coil fires when grounded and is getting power. Transistor is testing good for the coil though, but may be suspect as I've tested eveything else. Weirdly the resistance on the coil isn't registering anything, not sure what that means. Double checked some other coils and they are 5-6 ohms. I've ordered a transitor, pre-driver and new diode (and some spares), so I'll swap out those and hopefully it works. I've ordered a coil in case as well. :-)
 
when you say " the coil isn't registering anything "I presume you mean zero ohms.It cant be open circuit as it wouldnt fire.If zero ohms coil is fooked and needs replacing
 
Something was up with my cheap DMM, as I've got a new one and the coil is registering 6 ohms.

When grounding the TIP122 on the CPU board the coil was not firing, so I tested everything with the DMM, reseated and resoldered components downstream and replaced the transistor, pre-driver and diode on the coil. After all that when I now ground the TIP122 on the CPU board the coil fires, so the guide points to the trouble being upstream. So next up is the logic chips are these likely to mess up or anything else I should check as well?

Getting back to this as been busy with other things unfortunately:( . The chip controlling the coil is sending a signal at the right time according to the logic probe when the outhole switch registers. The TIP122 and pre driver transistor have been replaced and the continuity is working between all of these components.When the TIP122 is grounded the coil fires, so maybe the IC is screwy in some way, but I don't want to rip it out and break something else as the machine plays with the glass off at the moment:)



Out of ideas, so wondered if anyone knows who could do a DE CPU ver 3 board repair or if someone in the Newcastle area could take a look at this for me.

Nope, unfortunately not. Switch registers fine. With the logic probe onthe IC I can see the status change if I test the outhole coil, but it won't fire.
 
I had to do some chips recently and it was straight forward but I was shown the ropes by a helpful forum member.

I put a socket in and so can now replace chips easily, not sure if the process is the same on your board but all the parts can be bought from RS Componants or even eBay.
 
Cheers guys. I'll give it another once over to be sure then I'll see about replacing the chip. Does anyone know where I can buy a Data East version 3 CPU board if not or get it repaired?
