OT - Mice

Mice. We’ve been infected by the little ****holes for months. Our cat is doing a **** job and has only managed to kill a few.

Previously we used to have a great kill rate using Raisin and Biscuit yorkie but these little bastards are clearly more sophisticated. Came down this morning to discover they had ripped through a sushi kit and taken all the seaweed. More bizarrely had also drunk half the rice vinegar. It’s like they are dating in our pantry (last week they had ripped through an icing sugar packet and the shelf looked like a scene from scar face)

So we have the following bait set up
Chocolate (I discovered we are no longer a Yorkie type of house when I caught my wife loafing it with Godiva😂 possibly the most middle class conversation I’ve ever had).
Peanut butter
Cheese
Sweets
Toffee

All of which are being utterly ignored.

What else would people recommend to stick in the traps?
 
Would the best solution be to figure out how they get in and block all holes? Then they can’t get access to the food?
 
Thanks. Prevention would be better than cure but it’s an old Victorian house. Floorboards run under the walls. (You can hear them under them) No carpets. More gaps than floor in some rooms. Everyone in the row has a problem at the moment. They also come in via fireplaces etc. it’s far worse than ever before this year. I suspect the dry summer saw them coming in looking for water. Normally the cat smell is enough to deter them.

We managed to solve it in one room with a solid floor by blocking up any small holes round pipes etc etc with wire wool. (Discovered we had stupidly stored some kibble for the dog in there and they had munched through half a huge bag.)

Most of the stuff is now in plastic containers but they are determined little buggers, they can eat through plastic packets no problem.

I’m really reluctant to go down the poison route.
Similarly glue traps are a bit too hardcore for me. I’m quite happy to crush their skulls in a spring but don’t want to rip their feet off (yup. Double standards).
 
We have had issues since we moved in. Worse after the electricians and heating engineers made more holes during those renovations.
But a bit of peanut butter always did the trick until this year when this lot won’t go into any trap. It is like they are claustrophobic.
We have had an expert in, open bait traps are being fed from. But until all the holes are filled, they just keep being replaced.
We have covered the know vents. And now going around filling holes with wire wool and mouse sealant where possible.
Dog food is another issue, they do seem to like it.
 
Saw some signs of mice for the first time in a couple of years this week, usualy use penut butter but didn't have any in so used nutella, caught one the first night. Sort of smear it on so the mice have to work at getting it, and have more chance of triggering the trap.
 
Ok. New trap with Nutella goes down this morning.

If we get a live one it goes to the park and I’d wager it’s fox bait.

So far the score for this year is three caught and released (delivered by the cat)
Five played with and then mauled to death by the cat
Zero crushed by the traps
One mysteriously dead in the middle of the floor. Maybe met it’s end via a cat. Maybe died of heart failure after gorging itself on our food.
 
Never failed with milk chocolate and a proper trap.
Just remember not to touch the chocolate and to put it where you have seen them...

Ohhh! I like the electric chair killing thing above. Could easily stick icing sugar inside it as that really has proved to be their dream food.
 
Looks a better option than poison.
In my mums old house we found out that poisoned mice
Just hid away under the floor then died and the smell was terrible for months and at times found me ripping up the floor to find the remains.
Our current house if mouse proof but our cats insist on bringing them in and playing with them until dead and suck the skulls clean taking the meat and fur off the bone. Truly a disgusting find but better than seeing them work through our food shelves I guess
 
No rats about in my garden, this one made a big mistake😂
Had to force it from him as he was eating it, you never know if it had been poisoned otherwise he could of had a nice snack😖

These have been utterly useless with our infestation. They are avoiding going into all traps, only bait in an open tray is being eaten which is hard with kids and a dog.
 
Can't fault these traps I've not had a problem with them to be honest.
 
I think the mice left in our house are the smart ones who have survived a variety of traps over the years and come out alive. They won’t take any food from inside a trap, or at the mouth of one.
 
I used one of these when I got a rats nest outside. Sorted out however many there were in the colony in a couple of weeks - I just kept refilling it with poison blocks until they weren't being eaten any more. Apparently it's good for mice too.
 
I caught 11 mice in 2 days using the sticky pads with Nutella in the middle, I was told that mice run in straight lines. I removed the skirting board from the kitchen cabinets and placed the pad there, no sooner I was in bed my first one was very vocal, getting rid of the pads was not nice.
12 years clear so far.

Beef oxo cube... leave it in the foil. Mount it on your trap. If the tap doesn't get them the foil does as they eat that too get at the beef oxo.

Or tizer, they like the sweet sugar content.

Took me a while but I finally got one.

Mysteriously the bait has all gone though. I’m wondering if he choked to death on it.
