Dear all,

I have a standard board in my Lost World (AS-2518-35 i believe). The machine was working fine before I left for a couple of days and now when I return the machine wont boot.

The LED is in a dim lit state and there are no flashes at all when I turn it on.

Checked all the voltages on the supply and the test points on the MPU and all seem OK. The general illumination all comes on but it doesn't seem as if the MPU is going through any self test.

No sure of which flash means what in the sequence but seeing that there is no flash at all that doesnt really matter at this stage.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Andrew

This may help, has a section on led flashers and no flash.

The first thing I would try is to reseat the connectors on the MPU board. One at a time with the power off. Then try it to see if it boots.

The second thing I would try is reseating all the chips in the sockets. Make sure the power is off, you do one chip at a time, you don't bend the legs of the pins on the chips and lastly they chip goes back in EXACTLY the same orientation as you removed it. Take photos before you start.

Hello, Andrew,

As I understand the self-test sequence, the l.e.d. left to itself would light at full brightness, and amongst the first tasks once the board has reset with stable power is to turn it off. Then the processor receives the instruction to begin the self test, beginning with a test of the program chips. If this is okay, the l.e.d. flashes to show 'successful' - a good reason for it to be green, rather than the red used on Stern boards. This one looks like a problem with the program chips, U1 to 6. I'd suggest trying them in the Mpu of your Elektra, but the enabling 'E-link' jumpers are almost certainly different.

The general illumination on Lost World doesn't have any type of control from the Mpu board, it simply lights while the mains is on.

Thank you all for your replies.

First thing I always do is check the connectors and reseat them. One day I will replace them all but it is a heck of a task i am not looking forward to.

The board I am working on has had issues in the past, prior to me buying the machine. There has been the dreaded corrosion which appears to have been cleaned up quite well and properly. Also it appears there may have been problems with the LED at some stage as it is red on this board and not green. I have had it for about 2 months and everything has been fine so something has gone puff......

Will check all tracks to make sure that some corrosion issues have crept back in or a trace hasnt broken

I think the first try is to make sure the reset circuit works properly following info from the link above.

I will check the U9 and U11 in my Elektra to make sure they are OK and reseat the other chips.

Bit busy with work atm but will report back when I have more news.

Whether this is my old Lost World i sold a few years ago i don't know but i'm guilty of putting red led's on mpu boards where green originally were. I do remember replacing the board on the one i had due to a faulty battery that had leaked.

The guy I bought it off said he had it for years but who knows

There is damage to the board but has been cleaned up.

Did yours have the front of the head unit painted black instead of yellow?

Its not my old one. Mine was original colour and i just looked in my book. I sold it to a guy in Barnsley in 2013.
