Expired Nice TAF in Italy €4500

Expired Due to no activity
Yeah put me off immediately. He's got one review as a trader on there and it's one star out of five. Not sure I'd buy from overseas full stop tbh

I bought an Afterburner from Italy. DHL managed to damage it in transit which was a bummer. I put a claim in for 50% of the price it cost me (minus shipping) and they paid me the same day no questions asked

Damaged was fixable so I was happy overall

It's always abit risky. I don't think I'd do it again.

There's obviously more risk involved than buying from the UK if you go and view the games yourself before doing the deal but if you buy blind/on pics only than it's about the same IMHO  Apply common sense, don't get caught up in the getting a new game hype but the two most important rules for me are:
  • If it feels the slightest bit dodgy than walk away
  • Don't spend more than you can afford to lose
I only really buy from abroad for the obscure stuff that I've got little to no chance of picking up over here and they generally don't cost silly money. For games like TAF, MM etc you should be able to get one in the UK eventually and it's a lot of dough to wire off into the ether :)

He could get more than that in his own country I would hazard a guess.

By the time it gets here - it could be a different machine in the crate - if the pinball exists at all.

If a deal sounds too good to be true - it probably is!

4500+300 transport= 4800eur
Topper is missing.
Mansion looks great but picture is with the lights on.... as per me some insertwear around the insert Mamushka... and right side of insert Hit Cousin It....
And probably more things which are not visible yet... prints, cabinet,...
Bargain? For me not at all...

People would actually buy something this expensive - sight unseen???

Book a few days holiday off, rent a van and have a road trip... enjoy the trip, have a bit of fun along the way and in Italy itself, then you can make a decision in person, seeing it with your own eyes. If it's crud and you walk away with nothing, then if you did it right, you had a nice time travelling in Europe. If you decide to take it, winner winner chicken dinner, you get both. Your costs will not be much higher than the shipping/courier costs and you had a trip in the bargain.

And you know that it isn't going to get damaged by some random knob in transit being rough with it, because you're doing it.

Plus, receiving the request for someone in the UK to come and see it in person in Italy will automatically filter out a lot of scammers, leaving you to just deal with the risk of idiots that overprice junk.

Yeah, it's a lot of driving and time, but it's also a hell of a lot of money.

Yeah but unless your retired or something and value your time at zero £ then it makes no financial sense.

...hence making a holiday of it to further justify it. Also, pricing up time spent indulging a hobby isn't a useful metric. Perhaps I'm just a lazy sod but there are some days where I like to do things I want to do rather then fretting about ways I could be working instead.

I can't see how many people at all are still in pinball solely to make money.

I don't get

I've never understood this attitude. If I spend a day driving a 300mile round trip to pick up a pinball it's a means to an end. If chuffed when I get home and I've got a nice new game

I'm not sitting there thinking "my time is money and I am effectively £200 down today"

I mean, I can certainly understand not at all enjoying the process of driving all that way. It's an acquired taste, and I don't think you need to excuse just saying you wouldn't do it. But most of us aren't in jobs where just straight-up gambling €4.5k + delivery is cheaper than seeing it yourself to verify its quality first. I would hazard a guess that it's a £500-600 insurance policy at worst - not a cheap insurance at all, but makes total sense if you can enjoy the roadtrip.

My point of view is that a) I don't get enough days holiday per year to justify that sort of thing (or indeed anything without the wife and kids), and b) I do enough driving on my commute to work on the nightmare that is the M60. I think I've done well so far not to murder any other road users actually.

I do quite often buy stuff on eBay without thinking where it is and how much of a nightmare it will be to pick it up. Had to hire a van and do a 5 hour road trip the other week to fetch a treadmill. My worst one was having to drive all the way down the country to the south coast towing a horsebox to pick up a 2nd hand sofa. In the cold light of day, its madness. Just not worth the hassle.

Yeah, that all makes complete sense to me. If there's no pleasure in it then it is a dumb decision.
