Complete LW3 I got a bad feeling about this!

Recently picked up a LW3 in players condition but fully working :) pf is surface is actually in really good condition but plastics and metal work is a bit grotty. quite a fun game so decided to tidy it up a bit.

So far I have added mirror blades (look great on this game as matches the back mirror)

Game had terrible speaker hum like really loud from the lights (the hum matched the attraction mode) Fixed this by adding a dedicated meanwell psu for the audio board.

Removed and cleaned the translite as had air bubbles between the glass but now looks perfect :)

My current todo plan is...
- new CPR plastics (as about 5 are broken)
- tumble all metal pf parts
- replace missing screws
- fix beacon
- clean up wiring (some strange splices)
- fix broken glass trim
- good pf clean and wax
- new rubbers? (may as well?)
- all lamps look good but will replace any bad ones

Looks in really good condition alright, I wouldn’t class that as players condition. It’s actually a really fun game to play, I might have some of the plastics you need, I parted out one recently and have another(for sale).

I also have FT and I much prefer a game of LW3 over it, I’m only selling mine because my wife hates it with a vengeance, she just hates the theme, every time she’s in the room with it I get an earful when she leaves[emoji1787]
FT will be next on the chopping block.

Just ordered some CPR plastics but always like to use original silk screen, I’ll grab a photo of the ones I need see if you have them in better condition :)

Also need a ramp gate switch and the upper rear mirror if you have those parts :)

Here are the broken plastics and cracked mirror.

Once all that is fixed up with new tumbled metal work and rubbers the pf will be in fantastic condition :) Sorta makes me think if I should repaint / decal the cabinet as it’s only got a few dings and dents hmmm. Make this a super nice game? Or am I just wasting my time? I just enjoy playing it :)

Oh the plastic next to the left ramp might not be broken it just stops short (looks like it should extend down lol)

Just noticed lower right side blue plastic with the helicopter is also broken has lower part on the wooden rail snapped off

I think you are missing a switch at the left ramp where that plastic stops

Ah yes your are correct
Must be why my scores are so low....... lol

Ordered a blue beacon off eBay to steal the lens but was a bit smaller then I thought :/8E8C2912-24CB-4FA0-9228-752431C03DCF.jpeg

Received cpr plastics and a rubber kit so will start to strip down pf at some point also have some connectors to fix :)

The diode is on the wrong way round on this
Wouldn't it be giving me bucketloads of grief if it were the wrong way round with other switched in the row/col being detected at the same time? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm pretty sure I put it the same way round as the one that came out that didn't have the leaf attached (& thought it would be obvious cos I would have expected the aforementioned grief if it were wrong, as it was the first soldering I did on the machine).

Plus if you're not wrong, that means I must be, so could you help me out as to why I'm wrong, please?

The diode is on the wrong way as Chris said - and also the wire should be on the opposite lug too. Best way to describe what you need to do is mirror image the connections and diode direction.

I used this recently.

Needs a bulb fitting and I stripped the magnetic base from it, but for the price you can’t go wrong. And it’s big !!

Mostly stripped down, will have to replace all the long screws used on the flipper lanes as they either snapped or where bent as hell.

will take last few rails off then give it a good clean. Then start swapping out rubbers and replacing any damaged / transparent plastics and dodgy looking lamps.

also found the missing ramp micro switch! Was under the tower plastic??

All metal work will be tumbled and other bits and bobs cleaned :)

Dinning room is now the official pin repair workshop :D

Don’t want your garage covered in fine layer of dust when tumbling?

Quite a few plastics need riveting (and ran into this issue on ES as well)
So i bit the bullet (haha) on this restore and bought the 1/2 ton press and the rivet press kit / master rivet kit from pinRestore. Time to be able to rivet my self! :)

Good old tumbler never disappoints :)
Got to be one of the most useful tools when restoring these machines. Certainly one of my favs, 3 days with bit of novas2 and tiny drop of brasso always has great results.

Slightly off topic, but nice photos of the playfield.

Showed me I was missing a post on the left outlane(??) on my LW3. I thought I was losing my ball too easily down that side of the playfield!

Thank you, and good luck with the rest of the refurb. I do like this game.

Ah very good :)

Some new toys turned up from pinRepair in the states, just need to assemble it now (press from eBay) Ordered a cheap bench drill to be able to covert the press to take the dies. Then can hopefully do my own riveting :)

The press is even LW3 blue too! Are you blinging the inside cab sides, perhaps homemade hip mirrors? We love us some LW3 here at Team Basingstoke HQ

Iv got a set of @xianek mirror blades which look fantastic :)

Yeah is a fantastic machine and this one is in pretty decent nick as well no wear on pf. And now with new rubbers and plastics and tumbled metal will be in fantastic condition :)
