LOTR Lord of the Rings

Excellent condition, Previously maintained by Andy Netherwood/ PinballMamia

Playfield – no wear to the playfield at all.

Plastics – all plastics appear to be perfect- ie not broken, not chipped , not cracked

Playfield toys – all the toys appear to be perfect. The main monster in the middle of the playfield ( whose name escapes me at the moment) looks like the top of it’s jaw is smashed away, if you look very closely it isn’t broken that is the way the design is supposed to be.

Rollover switches –

I have shown rollover switches on very close up as that is the nearest thing to wear on the playfield. I have a Stern Simpsons Pinball party, and Stern have used a different technique for LOTR there are little notches at the end of( some of) the rollover slots, these have been made like that at the factory. If you are unaware of that, then comparing it to Bally Williams style, some of the switches look worn, but look carefully and you can see factory finished notches on (only some of ) the rollover switches.

Backbox,

The left hand side has several scrapes in the one area- it looks like someone has used a ratchet belt without padding, and it has dug in. Someone has touched up with blue marker, and this disguises it a lot. I would call it a very sympathetic restoration. Nothing else on the machine appears to have been touched up/restored.

Cabinet

Apart from the above the decals are in excellent condition, The worst looking area is around the flipper buttons, they are not quite as bad in real life, as the flash makes them look worse than they are.

There are a couple of small marks in different areas it is quite hard to tell them apart from the pattern. I have included plenty of close ups.

The spirit level has been fitted incorrectly and scrapes the side when lifting the playfield, I was very tempted to touch this up, but have left it to keep the machine honest.

There has never been any sort of security bar on the cabinet, ie, no extra boltheads and no filled holes.

Keys - Comes with all keys.

Base.

At some time the base of the cabinet has been punctured, it is near the speaker, and is covered up by the speaker cable, I have pulled the cable aside and photographed it next to a £1 coin to give an idea of scale. I have also photographed it from underneath. It is very tidy on the outside, and looks similar to the speaker vents.

Electrics.

I have included loads of photo’s showing just how clean the electrics are, no sign of smoke no sign of overheating, they are also very clean.

Translite – appears to be perfect.

DMD – appears to be perfect.

Siderails, - appear to be perfect, no dents, twists or buckling

Lockdown bar - appears to be perfect

Sound - appears to be perfect.

Photographs:-

If after looking carefully at the photographs, then please get in touch if you have any additional questions. If you require any additional photographs, then please tell me exactly what you want to see, as I have photographed all the bad bits.

Note to anyone unfamiliar with LOTR artwork: Stern have an unusual approach to artwork with LOTR, it looks like there are loads of scrapes and slashes and wear on both the playfield and decals. That is the way it is designed to be – it would have looked better if someone at stern had spent another couple of hours photoshopping it, but that is the effect they went for.

If you think something looks like wear, it won’t be, there is no wear on the playfield at all., look carefully a the surrounding area and the suspect line or area will tie in with the design next to it. I have taken loads of photographs of all of the playfield. You can compare the artwork with that on the PDB which should put your mind at rest.

Machine currently located at my home near Stirling, Central Scotland.

Lord of the Rings was played over the weekend at the Scottish Pinball Open championship which I hosted.

I am happy to pack or palletise for no charge so it is ready for a specialist courier .

There is a possibility I could deliver personally to North of England, for about the same cost as a courier.

Reason for sale is varying health.

Good offers of money are invited.

At present I am not able to consider trades except these machines which I have been after for a while:-

Capcom airborne ( not F-14 tomcat)

Mario/Mario Bros

Hyperball

Cactus Canyon

Big Bang Bar

Family Guy

World Cup Soccer 94

It would be hard to find a better example, poorer examples of Lord of the Rings were selling for £3000 at the start of the year, and I paid a bit more for this one from a group member..

Good offers are invited, prior to it going on ebay.

Thanks,

John
