Recently acquired and requires a shop even though sold in good condition. I think we should have a universal condition code. Playfield being Diamond Plate is ok, just very dirty. Photos later as I have been working on that. My local pinball consultant @astyy is providing encouragement and good advice.
The cab has been in a damp environment as the bottom has sagged where the transformer is. I need to drill out the screws and t nuts. As Lara Croft would say. Jobs to do.....

Reading previous threads about the colour match. I think @Andypc had found a near match with Valspar Aladdins Wish blue. This is a 2017 trade colour which is not on the retail match cards now. However the nice chap in B&Q found the base colours and did a manual mix for me, so that been put aside for when we are at that point. Photo shows the colour codes needed.

Mine had a saggy bum with damp also, I removed the transformer and cut a piece of laminated chipboard as a strut, worked well to pull the bottom back in place. I guess a new bottom would have been better but budget pin!

Back box, ready for some attention.

Grey premier was not that grey to be honest. 2 coats of blue and looks ok. Side decals from Retro Refurds were easy to apply.

My god, you really go to town on it. I was hoping to repair my SW in situ without removing anything and your LW looks way better condition.
Maybe I need to go for it, but I just want to play it now.

I would strip SW down to be honest. Happy to come and see it as you are a bit local.

I like shiny screws. I start changing one or two and end up doing the whole lot much to the delight of PayPal and Pinball Mania!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Yeah come and have a look. I’m still trying to work out how to tackle the back where the damp has got to it, although the outside has delaminated in places, the inside back seems quite solid. Do I cut and replace the dead wood or pick the loose bits off and fill?
I will start a shop log.

So Team Basingstoke has decal experience! Just the start button to do which I'm gathering my thoughts on.

@astyy provided the moral support and a straight edge. Decals from @PeteB they went on a treat.

Okokok, so I have put new earth brading in and my transformer seems to have quitened down. So this weekend I will put the old sound card in and see if I have lost the speaker hum.

Comet LEDs are the blue. Superbright elsewhere.

Next. We have a fault on the right side side which the coils do not work. Linked to the right drop targets so @astyy was given choc donut and an invite round to hold court and investigate.

Once that's resolved I think we are near done.

I'm going to try an LED police light for the back box too.

I fixed the speaker hum on mine by powering the sound board with a small PC Power supply.
Hi Andy

Where did you pick the power from for the PSU?
I have put the original card in and getting some hum and crackle and also when I move the Pot I get static.

TIA

I just run in a PC power cable through one of the vents at the back. Didn't touch any cables in the machine, so it's leave everything original and can easily be removed. Only thing is I have to switch that on at the wall before the machine. :) "We're back in action"

That could just be a pot that needs replacing
Or
Dirty wiper / wiper track inside the pot - sometimes rotating the pot between Max and Min lots of times cleans it up.
Also check solder contacts - make sure solder joints are good. Those solder tabs shouldn’t move, if they wiggle a little then that is bad as they will have intermittent connection to the wiper track.

Okokok,
Lighted targets now up and running. They work but a bit stiff.

A few faults but looking on the matrix they are all connected. Right drain, right sling, right drop targets ,left saucer. @astyy will be convinced to looked at the MPU while I'm away unless Thomas Cook shaft me later this week.

Heres a vexing issue... I have speaker interference similar to static, but it stops if I go into audits and diagnostics. I'm hedging that the light driver has something to do with it?

Tidy up on a few outstanding problem tickets!

New Police flasher on the back box. Nice LED two colour LED set.

Police car mod in lieu of missing helo. The lights will flash once I can find 5VDC.

To do.
Slide blades.
New colour DMD from @Audiofreak due, then will put colour files on.

Head banging bit.
Got a switch coloum out. Traced it back to the MPU, so I think this will be a big ticket item.

General cleaning. Mothers mag on the ramp and changed out the standard LEDs on the lanes for Comets from @philpalmer once you start with Comets it's hard to walk away!

Protectors from @Colywobbles yellow on blue works well.

Colour DMD next.

Still got a crackle , not a hum on the speakers though.

Some final tweaks over the weekend and I am happy with my LW3 so marking complete.
It's a hybrid from the original and updated so some purists might object. If funding allowed I would put a pinsound in, but I have a crackle with the existing DE sound board I will live with for now. The crackle goes when in dianostics mode.

Dr Who next I think....
