Left flipper hold fails STTNG

Hi,
New to the inner workings of Pinball.

Currently my left flipper has an issue, when the button pressed and held the flipper double taps rather than staying upright. The machine test fails a left flipper hold. The solonid which the flipper plunger goes into is a bit loose, as it will move a little. The right one doesn't.

How can I resolve this?

Would a flipper rebuild kit fix this, or is it something else.

Any help would be appreciated, although answer need to be at toddler level!

When you say the flipper double taps do you mean it flutters up and down constantly?

Press button, flipper fires, but fires twice very quickly, button not pressed flipper does nothing. Press button quickly flipper behaves normally. Hold button flipper fires twice very quickly.

Hi Andy_B, it flips twice but very quickly, you could say it flutters up. Its not constant only when you press the flipper button, it does'nt always do it, however when you hold the flipper button it will not stay up, it double flips (flutters) then nothing happens.

Do into switch test.
Move the flipper by hand and check that the EOS switch triggers in the correct place.
Check all three wires are connected to flipper coil correctly and soldered firmly.
Make sure the two diodes on the coil are both fine and intact.

Try what people have told you if no luck
Swap the flipper opto boards in the cab side to side and see if the problem migrates if it does then job done

Thanks guys, had a bottle of wine this evening, so not going to try anything!

The three wires are connected to the flipper coil and seem soldered firmly.
Not sure about the into switch test, will try tommorow, I try some switch tests previously and they passed.
Two diodes on the coil? Could you assist, not sure what I'm looking at.

I will swap the flipper opto boards and see if it moves to the right.

I think Stan has said it all apart from the eos switch is wrong type it’s an system 11 one not wpc I would put some complete new mechs on both of those flipper s

Cant see any diodes on the coils ?

They are probably on the top side of the coil, if you look carefully you can see the wire wrapped round the coil lugs.

In addition to what Stan and Chris have said already, it actually looks like the EOS is on the wrong way round so it stays shut when the flipper mech hits it...

So in answer to the question asked by @cmrl9 - Yes, a flipper rebuild kit will help. There are plenty of videos on youtube on how to - search WPC flipper rebuild. Good Luck!

Coils round the wrong way , its the wrong strength , the return spring is incorrect and the soldering is crap
Thanks, Flipper rebuild kit from Pinball heaven and some other bits I need. (have to hold off until next month). I thought it might be the wrong one, the right one has williams written on it, however I thought as Williams went bust, getting one with a Williams logo on might not be possible. I take a picture of the right flipper in the next couple of days, for advice if it also needs rebuilding.

Thanks Chris B Pinball, where would I get the EOS switch from, Pinball Heaven or a different place?

When the spring arm goes into the solenoid it closes the two little long metal posts together, is this not correct? The right one operates in this way and is working?

Left flipper with plunger pushed into coil, EOS switch touching, is this correct?

Top right flipper, looks correct. Spring about worn, does this need replacing? working correctly
