I picked up a JD from a friend of a friend etc etc, that has multiple issues
1. All the flippers stick in the up position after releasing the buttons for a few seconds
2. Half of the Gi lighting in the back box and playfield don't work
3. The crane is missing the magnet parts
4. When you get multiball it fires all six balls out (not sure if its supposed to)

Any help appreciated

Are the flippers just stiff/binding or are the coils still powered? ( take glass off and try to push the flippers back down ). Sounds like they need a rebuild, was the machine used before you got it or left standing in a damp shed?

Machine has been standing unused for a couple years in a conservatory, the flippers seem to stick up longer depending on how long you have kept the buttons pressed in prior

1 . when flippers are in the up postition Switch the power off !
if thay stay up them its a rebuild on the flippers (plugger has mushroomed )
2. most likely bad conection J120 J 121 i think it is !
3. so the coil at the end is missing ?
4. sound about right ! ,but check the opto in the through to start with !

its been a very loog time since i had a JD !

Will check the flippers,i did try swapping the gi connections and it made no difference
The crane is just bare the solonoid was lying in the bottom o_O

For 2. Which PF lights are out? Are they in the same rows/ colums on the lamp matrix? As Carl says J120/ 121 are the GI power connections, but the Playfield lamp matrix goes off J133/ J137 and the flashers go off J122/ J124 or J125/ J126 by the looks.

For 4. The regular game Deadworld multiball is only 3-ball. I think you only get 6 balls on the "Ultimate Challenge" when you complete all the Chain link Crime Scenes. Could be trough opto issues if you're getting 6 ball deadworld multiballs maybe?

You might also get some 6-balls on the "Super Game" modes, but if we're talking regular game multiball, its only 3 ball as standard.

@carl lawrence - Feel free to come round mine and use your old machine to refresh your memory ;)

Progress made,Gi lighting all sorted ,this was down to bad fuse connections
I have ordered flipper rebuild kits, looks like its supposed to only kickout 2 balls for the supergame so something strange going as kit kicks out 6.
Where's best to get crane parts from? :hmm:

It should kick out 3 balls (as in starts in multiball) for the supergame. Once you get all the drop tragets down back up is called (so extra balls are kick out) and you should get a 6 ball multiball. If it is not doing that you have issues with the trough (very common on this game) or the drop targets not registering or an incorrect number of balls in the game.

Try removing the balls from the game and put it in to switch mode. Add a ball to the trough and verify that the switch matrix sees it, then repeat for the remaining 5 balls. If that is ok, check the drop targets and verify that they register correctly (both up and down).

Tested the trough opto's,6 register but the one called 'top trough' didn't,also when buying the extra ball at the end of the standard game it starts multiball?

3 or 6 balls when you use the extra ball buy-in?

Also, are any of the trough opto's permanently closed when you remove all the balls?

When i remove all the balls top trough opto stays open all others are closed,3 balls when you buy in,it comes up with multiball on the dmd as soon as you buy in.

Could see it launching extra balls for no apparent reason due to the trough optos being duff but actually initiating the multiball mode sounds like another issue on top? I presume its the Deadworld multiball that kicks off?

Are you getting any errors (other than presumably "Crane broken") when you access the operator menus?

:)Game is running L4 software, other errors are switches 28,32,61,looks like its just standard multiball that starts on extraball button

Thanks for your input :)

You need to sort the top trough opto...
+1, repair the top trough opto. The software probably isn't smart enough to work out a ball has been kicked on to the playfield so keeps unloading the trough. Once you've put that right you'll be able to get a clearer picture on anything else at fault.

+2 sort out the Opto in the trough .
Have you a manual for this machine ?
Switch 28 Crane This is not used ...new software will sort this does not effect anything
Switch 32 book says not used !
Switch 61 globe position 1 (a right pig to clean them two are on that board )

Good luck !

Globe optos cleaned, flippers rebuilt just waiting for parts from marcos to arrive :)
