Thought I would take a chance on this one and hopefully stop it being made into a coffee table or virtual pin.

The Jo Malone branding looks like it’s made of a vinyl wrap that should hopefully just peel off?Could be wishful thinking on my part, but the worst case scenario is I’ll need to buy a stencil kit. It’s the playfield that worries me! I don’t think anyone makes a replacement playfield for this particular pin at this moment in time, so locating a replacement could be a headache

Before I purchased this unit I wanted to know which pin it used to be? The coin door is from a Classic Stern, so I spent a few minutes looking through the classic Stern database until I found a playfield that matched. A 1979 Magic seems to be a perfect match.

This pin was used for a Jo Malone promotion in 2018. Here’s a link to a blog from the company that done the retheme.

I’ll upload some pictures later today and let everyone know if I’ve made a massive mistake or got a really good deal 🤞🏻

Yay! It’s just been delivered! Looks like they just used gaffa tape for the stripes.

I'd get some cold spray on the tape first before peeling it off...

Looks like the playfield might have an overlay so you could be lucky with a half decent playfield underneath..!

Everything appears to be covered in tape or wrap! So it’s just a matter of peeling everything off and I should hopefully have a Stern Magic hidden underneath.

Fingers crossed the playfield is in good condition 🤞🏻

The heat gun has been really effective at removing the sticky wrap. The trick is to only heat each section for a couple of seconds and gently peel the wrap at the same time.

The backglass is actually not as bad as I thought.

Looks like I have number 537 out 2202.

The Jo Malone is beginning to look more like a Stern Magic now. Still got the playfield and plastics to go.

Nice snag! I thought that was worth going for! Cool that it's not going to be too tough to undo that nasty conversion.

Started stripping the playfield for a full clean. I’ve been using IPA to clean off all the sticky glue leftover from the wrap and mylar.

Next job after cleaning will be rebuilding the artwork and repainting the really worn areas on the playfield.

After a long hiatus it’s time to resume work on Magic.

Just ordered a new overlay for the playfield which should hopefully be here soon.

Time to restore the coin door.

I’m really enjoying working on classic Sterns. Much easier to restore than Bally pins and they seem a lot lighter to move around.

I would definitely recommend a Classic Stern for any first time pinball restorers.

I’ve decided to have a go at making my own playfield protector as no one makes protectors for Magic at this moment in time.

I ordered a PETG sheet size of 0.5mm x 625 x 1025mm for £8.40 (£17.15 including shipping) and cut it down to size with a craft knife.

Next job is to use a Dremel to make the holes for each part on the playfield.

Almost done reassembling the coin door, a few bits that still need sorting but pretty much done.
