JJP Harry Potter -Confirmed

Neil has invited me over to play Kong 'which is another option' so I'm keeping my powder dry until I've seen & played everything.

D&D is actually much better than I imagined but the theme is not really for me and fortunately all the Evil Dead games have been sold.

I was in NYC last week and visited Scrappleland, the new pinball venue from the guy who owns Sunshine. That place is deserving of a post of its own, but amongst the incredible lineup they had Kong LE, DnD LE and Evil Dead.

Evil Dead easily wins on theme for me, but I actually enjoyed playing Kong and DnD more, and like you the DnD theme does absolutely nothing for me.

Kong is the best new game I’ve played in ages - even my wife wants one now. DnD was a real surprise for me, the layout isn’t particularly novel like Kong but I found the software / rules very compelling.

Then again I was around 10 beers deep by the time I left so it’s possible there was a slight beer goggle effect going on.

Bloody hell, I think it looks amazing!

As a huge Harry Potter fan, I think they have captured nearly everything.

Cannot wait to see it play.

Looks great.

Arcade offers a lot only difference is cosmetic.

Personally I prefer the Wizard/arcade art over the CE, but very smart to be totally different. Choice between book or film style art.

Will probably be my first non stern but need to see gameplay to make sure it's not a mb fest. Also I need to sell a couple of games first but guessing it'll be a while for arcade edition to get here anyway

It looks great- would love to hear what others think once they get their hands on it. Theming looks spot on and they seem to have packed it without seeming too busy like GnR

David Thiel on sound is a big deal for me.

Depending in gameplay vids this might be my first JJP.

But did you notice no audio from the films at all. No audioclips of any of the actors and not using the John Williams theme at all. Seems they have cheaped out by not paying for the actors individual voices just video clips from the film without the accompanying audio. I feared they would go this way. Like I GOTG and Walking Dead what is a license if it doesn’t have audioclips from the films. We generally dont even notice video clips when playing pinball. One audio clip of Ron Weasley saying something daft when you drain is worth 10 video clips of wizards casting spells at each other.

Maybe I’m wrong but I worry the “film clips” JJP mention don’t include clips of movie audio of the actors. Sorry but why bother. Might as well be an original version like Stern did with Jurassic Park.

This is why Pulp Fictionis such a good license. 250+ sound clips of every character in the film…

Hopefully I’m wrong but I was burnt by JJP when they did Wonka with hardly any speech clips from the film. Also, POtC by JJP is similar. Video clips of anything not featuring actors, no lines from the films. The only thing they paid for was photos of the cast.

The table looks the part but if it doesn’t sound right then it’s already failed the main reason people buy pinball tables for their favourite licenses.
