HI on a JJ GnR power supply switch shroud there is a power outlet in the north american style .It is covered over by a yellow sticker saying 240v.I am wanting to take 240 v from this to power a step down to 5v transformer for my fans which i currently have plugged in an on the wall outlet but i keep forgetting to turn off.So my question is has anybody done /used this outlet and if i buy the american plug which is rated to 120v and use it for 240v is it safe.Cheers Martin

First of all - check that it is live - Bally williams used to remove them completely on UK machines.

All I would say they are probably always live as long as the game is plugged in. Originally they got fitted for service engineers to plug a soldering iron in, and of course you would not solder with a game powered on.

I would remove the switch box and install a 4 way trailing socket on the switched side of the power switch.

It probably would be okay to use this socket even if wired correctly (so it activates when the game is turned on).

If you have no idea about 230v wiring. Dont mess !

I hadnt realised it might be constantly live ,presumed wrongly that being above the switch it would work with the switch ,thanks Phil ,glad i asked.I dont want to mess with the wiring as its still under warranty so was hoping i could just use the socket. Edit @Pick Holder you were right ,it is wired in and yes it is live when machine plugged in but switched off ,so no use for my purpose.

I have just fitted my fans this morning exactly the way you are thinking.

I just used 2 spade connector jumpers to give the 240v out to your 5v power supply courtesy of my mate round the corner @Colywobbles . see photos below

I have to say mind the quality is very good on Wayne's Fan mod and they are silent, i even had to take a fan back off to see if it was spinning to check.

Hi Paul thats great thanks for the pictures.I think i will do what you have done .I have also fitted a fan to my magnet running to the same supply as they are known to overheat and can damage a transistor. i used a smaller 5v fan with a heat sink built in from a remote control car as waynes were a tad big.
