Playing Judge Dredd last night and the Upper Left flipper (next to DW ramp entrance) died mid-game and failed to respond from then on.

Lower Left and both Right flippers are still ok and the UL flipper responded to menu-driven diagnostic tests ok. - It just won't do anything when the left flipper button is pressed in a game.

Didn't have time to look at internals before crashing for the night - Any suggestions at where to look first when I get home tonight?

Check the flipper button is detected using the switch test, you've probably got an opto out or in need of cleaning. Good luck.

Upper and Lower Left flipper both activate off the left flipper button so the buttons being picked up as the LL flipper worked ok last night. However I came home tonight, switched JD on and played a test game to see if anything else was obviously acting up and the damn UL flippers working again...

Not complaining, but I'm guessing I've got either a loose connection or some kind of overheating issue? Still doesn't explain how the flipper worked in the tests but not in games though.

Have a quick look at upper lh flipper connections and that on the flipper board in the backbox

Hi, Rog

I'd still suspect the flipper button Pcb as it has two opto-couplers. These are usually used to switch first the lower flipper and then the upper one (if fitted). It's a bit like the pre-Fliptronic era, where Williams 4-flipper games had an additional pair of contacts on each flipper button.

Opposite actually.

Since posting about it the bloody things been working perfectly, so I'm tentatively hoping it was some kind of temporary spaz-out but as I don't get that lucky I'm currently waiting for it to start happening again so I can try diagnosing it properly.
