It works!!!

Phosphoric acid is a bloody strong acid. Coca-cola has a small amount of it, sure, but it's still there, and you will get the same results as an acid-bath of any other kind.

Coke is good in a pinch, but if you imagine yourself needing to rust treat anything else in the future, go all-in, get the stuff in a neater form: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Phosphoric...osphoric+acid&qid=1561546964&s=gateway&sr=8-2 - works faster and you don't have to scrub off all the bloody sugar!

Same method Paul ?

Dip silver foil in liquid and scrub legs ? Assume gloves are even more recommended ?
Yep. Just for a little less time and elbow grease, as it works faster and you don't need to scrub off cola syrup...

You can dip very rusty parts completely as well. Phosphoric acid doesn't eat metal at an appreciable rate, it just converts rust to an easily-removed black patina of phosphate.

The fellas on pinside rave about evaporust (not that I've tried it yet). with the legs being submerged it it using a plastic PVC pipe with two end covers to keep all the gunk inside.

Swaps all the elbow grease for a bunch of time instead. 'Proper' evaporust is one of those fluids that converts rust but doesn't eat metal, so you can afford to leave it in a bath of the stuff. Try the same thing with phosphoric or any other etching acid and you'll knacker the finish with a weak acid, with a strong acid you'll lose a ton of metal to boot.
