What's new

Iron Man

Not really a fan of the whole Ironman theme, but I LOVE brutal playing pins. The harder and more brutal they are, the more i desire to control it. Kinda like my bowel movements after the first cup 'o coffee in the morning. o_O:oops:

I'd assume that most of the modern Sterns sold similar amounts in the UK. How many Rolling Stones or BBHs ever made it over here? Think AC/DC and Metallica were the exceptions rather than the rule.

The rumour is less than 1050 as no one has ever found one with a higher number - someone on Pinside says he got last off the production line and it was number 1040. Without doubt my favourite Stern ever and in my top 3 overall.

John Borg said 1800 were produced when he was asked - so who knows, just because collectors don't have higher numbers doesn't mean they aren't out there. All I know is I was very wrong about it as a game :D

There was an Iron Man in the now closed Tottenham Court arcade when it first came out. Wonder where that one went?

I guess when there is only 10 in the UK, it is easier to track them but it is good to know where machines are.

"I played it in Sydney when it first came out. Found it decidedly average"
I know I own one and not talking it up (yes I have played WOZ and enjoyed it) but I never get to experience a game properly unless in the home environment. I think its a great game and enjoyed it straight out of the box. My mate who is a better player than me didn't enjoy it until he had played it over a few weeks.
I think this was the original problem. People didnt enjoy at first until they had time to appreciate it properly.
Then again its the marmite theory. People enjoy different things/theme's.

Is it *that* good, or are the few owners in the country talking it up ;) I've played it at Nicks and at Ravs....seems *ok*, but don't really see all the fuss.

Keep in mind this is someone who rates Popeye and Baywatch over Medieval Madnezzzzzzzzzzzz :D
One of those games if you don't get close to do or die or jericho, it will seem pretty average. Get close though or achieve and adrenalin is off the charts! And because games so short, it has huge one more go factor.

the saddest thing for me is that i will probably never get to form a proper opinion. i played it a few times a while back, and have never had the opportunity since. all the A games (TZ, MM, MB, CV, AFM, TOTAN etc) you tend to see at every show, so everyone has played them. Likewise the B games (STTNG, WH2O, TOM, CFTBL etc). The C games (others that we've all heard of and seen) and the also-rans are what make up the majority of most shows, and i am by no means dissing them, as they are the meat and bones of the hobby. but the latest games, especially the rarer ones, will be only seen every now and then by most of us.

i remember quite liking it at the time, but i don't know if the current IM hype is merited or not. probably should leave the decision to those that have had the opportunity to play at least 20 games on it :(

Remember it on location at Tottenham Ct Rd. Enjoyed it the first time I played but got really bored when I went back. No idea why, would love to have a few more games. Ended up playing Avatar instead and preferring it. Agree with Dan though the problem is simply that you never get to see some machines. Avatar, Rolling Stones, BBH, TRON never think I'm going to see another on site and they didn't sell in enough quantity to see them at meets. Actually took me until last summer to play a Tron. Don't think it's just limited to the new titles though. When was the last time you saw a Hook? Didn't come across one since I sold mine until I went to Belgium a couple of months ago. Always wanted to play a TMNT but never had the chance. This summer was the first time I got to play Popeye

I played IM recently at Hope and Anchor. Started with MONGER at beginning and later tried figure out what is what , I end up with 75 million. After few games and finally know what to do finish game with over 100mil, missing DOD somehow (not 50mil shot but mode itself) and starting only Jericho.
My advice is Dont do just MONGER over and over (3 Million Jackpot is not Enough) and always go towards completing all Characters and Mark Suits. Every next ball is like entire new game and all you need is just one good one. Didnt have time for more games though.

stuck an offer in on it before Xmas. Got knocked back (which is fair enough). Seller claimed he'd had loads of interest and people were all over it. Yet strangely no other offers were made over the 9(?) days it was up there. Maybe it's not quite as sort after as Pinside would have it. Personally I'd like one but wouldn't offer the 3.5k he wanted. Still surprising that there were no other low ball offers made though.

Plus it looks like it has been on route so big difference between that and a HUO.

Have to say I have bought and sold over 20 pins in last 3 years and IM is the only pin not to go on the chopping block......and no plans to sell in 2014 either:eek:

I have seen over 15 in the UK and I know at least 20 more with them so about 50 to 70 in the UK would be realistic.

Got no reason to doubt this info, but a bit surprised that there are that many in the UK as I've only ever come across 1 at the old Tottenham Ct Rd Casino. Is 50-70 about right for most new titles? Would have thought it would have been less for most modern Sterns (Excepting AC/DC). Guess most go into private collections and never get seen again. Do you think as many as 50% get sited?

I remember seeing the SKIT-B list for Predator last year and being surprised about how many we due to come to the UK as I assumed 90% of them would end up as US sales.
Anyone seen one sited or are they all hidden away?

A lot would be in private collections and not for sale. Only 6 or so you see up for sale now and again are going round in circles:)

That seems highly unlikely. I was told absolute maximum would be 10 Iron Man in the UK. And it was from a very reliable source. Will wait for others to comment.

Well there is 6-7 listed on Pinformer, and at least 10 in private hands. Would assume there would be more than 20 in the UK

That's funny alcly the first time u had played a ironman was round my place a couple of months ago
I remeber you telling me then u reckon there were only about 10 or so in the uk
Where have u found all these ironman since then?

Am I right in my memory , was there a premium and pro models of Iron man? One where they removed all the magnets?
I also seem to remember it was released at the near height of Sterns cost cutting..
would still take one, but not paying 4k

no there was a pro equivalent that we know and then a classic (avoid that one)

Notes: Ironman Classic
- New redesigned MDF cabinet screwed together Ikea style.
- No magnets
- No kickback
- All LED inserts
- Stronger slings to compensate for lack of magnet/kickback
- Easier rules
- Always on Freeplay and no coin mech.

and a estimated 50 only made

I sold my IM for $7k in Aus but it had $2200 worth of mods / upgrades.

Here is a good resource (Pinpedia) for what IM's have been selling around the world.
