I'm wondering if I'm just overreacting — maybe it's a generational thing — but I feel pretty disappointed right now.
Back in 2023, I uploaded a custom Pinsound pack for Doctor Who. Over several weeks, I stripped down the original sound pack and replaced all 400+ files with some new ones I created in Ableton, later mastering them in Cool Edit and converting everything to stereo. It was no small task. I titled it the 30th Anniversary Edition, as a nod to how long Doctor Who had been running when Bally released the original table.
I shared it freely with the Pinsound community, happy for others to enjoy and use it — as long as I was credited for my work. And for a while, that worked out just fine.
However, I recently came across a release by someone called Simbula who uploaded a pack titled Doctor Who Pinsound Remaster – AI Enhanced Edition (Based on Devorian’s Pack). And here’s where the frustration sets in: I was never contacted, asked, or even informed about this so-called collaboration. In my opinion, the AI-enhanced Doctor voices don't resemble the original characters at all, and the result feels like a misrepresentation — both of my work and of my name.
I reached out to Pinsound to express my concerns. I asked that they encourage creators to act with more integrity and at least consult original authors before building on their work in such a public way. Unfortunately, I’ve been ignored. The hacked version remains and available for download, and I’ve now been effectively shadow-banned from their forum — anything I post has to be manually approved by a moderator, which, let’s face it, means I’ve been silenced.
I understand that by uploading the pack originally, I gave up a certain level of control. But this isn’t about legal rights — it’s about basic respect and courtesy. A simple message to ask if it was OK would have gone a long way.
Since I know Pinsound is active on Pinball Info, I’d genuinely like to hear from them.
