IFPA19 - Pinball World Championship

You might be right mate, but it was 80 last year and the cut was 100
You might well be right too:) and will be interesting to see. Last year you just made the cut with 100.

With 64, it used to be around 98 to get in, but the year before (last year with 64), 98 was only a playoff.

When, Martin, you and I went to Germany I'm sure you remember that you were in a 7 way playoff with 96 and Martin and I just missed out with 92 each.

Indeed! I remember it well!!

It's going to be super interesting to see 😬

Appreciate the recaps Martyn ☺
Passed the driving to Scotland over to my wife so I can watch the stream in the car, good luck guys!

Looks like all three Brits have scored 8 pts from their first two games - solid starts

Supersonic was a tap pass and regain control marathon. Josh put up a decent 433k, but Dalton was the star of the game with 898k on his first ball, third place for Josh

We made a detour last week to Bar Eighty Two in LA to get some pre match practice so Josh got some time on Grand Lizard there, it paid off as he had nothing as P4 coming into his third ball but started two Mulitballs to take second place with 640k

Sega Godzilla went OK and Josh’s 84M looked good for third but Luke’s 13M bonus left Josh in fourth

A nine point round, so 92 points with one round to play

If the suggestion is correct then it looks like a 1st on TOM for Josh - which looks like it should be enough for somewhere in the 17-32 bracket!

And so, onto the final round

Mystic started with Jordan putting up 273k and Steve not getting the ball at all

Zach hit 116k and Josh playing last knew his bonus would take him into second so didn’t try to save a STDM ball

Coming into last ball on Deadly Weapon Josh only had 1M chasing 10, he got to 7.5M in second but scores of 11M and Steve’s luck reversing with four scoop bounce ins in a row from the pops pushed him onto 15M leaving Josh in fourth

So, all down to the last game and “don’t come last” on Theatre of Magic whose mega sensitive slingshots claimed everyone’s ball one

Josh came into his last ball in last place as player four on 57M, chasing 90M, 356M and 434M

He passed Zach after a great STDM slap save and started MB, chasing down the others with his bonus taking him to 466M to win his final game and qualify for the knockout stage!

Nick (86) and Andy (88) couldn’t manage the wins needed to get them to the cut line

In the first knockout round of 32 Josh started well on his pick Hoops, putting up 7M with Jason only able to make 1.8M

Jason’s pick of Iron Maiden left both tied around 90M after two balls , but Josh had Mummy ready and passed Jason’s 100M to take a 2-0 lead

Josh then moved to Jaws with a 290M first ball, going on to Rescue MB and 50M encounter collect, ending with 588M with Jason only getting to 63M

3-0 up just one more win needed

On Wizard, Josh fell an agonising 18k short of the 132k target, Jason beat his 258k on Supersonic on his final ball and put up 3.5M on Robocop which Josh couldn’t match, brining it back to 3-3

Josh had choice on tie break and picked Godzilla but failed to get control at all tilting his first ball saving the plunge and losing his second down the middle after a building shot reject

On Ball 3 he got MB ready but a scoop reject to start the mode hit the slings and left him on 8M and down 3-4

Jason put up 448M Ball 1 on Josh’s next pick of Mystery Castle leaving Josh a big target he couldn’t reach with bad feeds and failing to recover missed shots

So his first ever IFPA ends at the round of 32 and a $400 payout

So proud of him for qualifying against such an amazing field, he played really well for most of the games, repeatedly coming back on Ball 3 to gain points and was so close to progressing

Many thanks to everyone who has been so helpful, it’s been an amazing (and incredibly stressful) couple of days
