that appears on the majority of for sale threads.
Also the why has someone not bought this by now ?

I like that people may say things like this seller is a top person and has shopped this , or quality snipits of their ability or how nice that pin is. this all helps the sale and give a potential buyer a better reason to buy

But some of this is very misleading for new people as they may be convinced that a certain pin is worth x ammount when in reality no way would the people posting pay that for it ?
Surely in some ways this is as bad as shilling on ebay.

How do you know they wouldn't pay that for it if they had the (cash/room/permission)?

I'm not in favour of for sale ads being stretched out with unrelated stuff, views, price wars and all that but as you've said in your third paragraph, think a third party (friend or not) view of the machine does in fact help a buyer decide if legit, trustworthy and all that which I'd like to think most people here are.

Think the problem is where to draw the line for admin guys, not easy I'm sure. End of day if you like the look of something but concerned if 'price is right', I'd say just ask the opinion of someone that's been in the pinball scene a long time, whether or not they're a member here.

The only way to stop rabble on FS threads is to allow only the OP to post in the thread and just encourage people to contact them via the PM system if they're interested but it's not really hurting anyone as it stands.

I agree jmp , very hard i suppose to admin and no biggie, just makes me smile at some of the ads where machines do not sell and yet lots of people have said what a bargain it is ?
I certainly agree with your point that it would be best to ask someone who has been on the pinball scene a long time, and that is exactly what i have done in the past,

Being on the scene for a long time does not mean you are in any way impartial or honest.

It does go a long way as to letting a potential buyer know who they are dealing with. The longer someone is around in such a small community like pinball, the more they get to be known. It soon becomes apparent if they are kosher or not.

People can always ask advice in another section of the forum, or even PM anyone for their opinion.

Why not leave it to the thread creator to allow replies or not? Then if anyone else was truly bothered about this they have the choice.

I don't see the problem on any of the comments in any FS thread. I'd like to think most people are not dumb enough to buy or not buy a game from comments alone.

That could work, but it could also lead to people thinking there was something awry with seller that did or did not allow any posting.

I think it best to just not allow others to post in a for sale ad to avoid any potential gazumping/shazaaming/shilling or whatever you want to call it.

If someone posts that they think the price is over or under then the rest of the forum users have the chance to respond to that and they usually do. At the moment it seems that you are allowed to comment if you think the price is reasonable or a bargain but not if you think it is over priced. This gives an unbalanced overall view.

Surely most of us are thick skinned enough to accept criticism, as long as it's not offensive. I know if I listed a machine for sale on here, I would happily accept criticism and either argue my case and stand by my price or possibly agree with the criticism and adjust the price.

Well that's true. But I'm not trying to drive the price down, I just want to be sure that it is right. If the majority think that its priced fairly then there could be a bigger hole in my pocket

I'd love to be able to post in threads about how overpriced I think stuff is when it's listed as "£XXX NO Offers" but I've been told I'm not allowed, so I'll keep my opinions to myself Needless to say, I think most stuff is overpriced (my own included) but that's the market we now live in. I'm from the time of £500 BSDs and FTs and £800 TZs

Collectors will bitch and moan about prices. Same in the car world.
Something is worth what people are willing to pay.
Surely We should not comment on another persons price, It will sell or it wont... Live and let live is what I say.
I think some good hard and fast rules for selling threads would end this frequent discussion/argument.

Only post if you are genuinely interested in buying the item. Superfluous posts will be removed.
Works both for the collector and the seller.
