I’ve never been one for drugs but after my recent duo of wrist op’s and the horrendous pain I’m experiencing todays visit to the hospital gave me a kind of timetable of recovery and a solution to my pain.

10 days till they remove my stitches and I must not use my hand at all and keep it elevated as much as possible.

This is followed by physio therapy until the bone has healed with an estimated 12 weeks recovery and repair.

Full use of my hand should be about 12 months due to the severity.

However due to the excessive nerve damage this has got to me monitored regularly and in the meantime they have gave me a specialist nerve drug called Gabapentalin to calm the involuntary electric shock type pains and unreal tingling of most of my fingers and thumb.

I took one of these tablets today and within an hour I was floating around the house totally spaced out and it felt like I really did enter the twilight zone.

They tell my my body should get used to this eventually but be aware of the mass of side effects that these can bring on.
Bonus is the shocks have stopped but I’m totally useless and can barely do any day to day tasks so I’m gonna try time them accordingly so I can at least have Bertha doing jobs early morn/noon while recouping.

This week I’m also gonna list a couple of project pins I’ve recently acquired as I don’t see any point them sitting here and I probably wouldn’t have even bought them had I known what was coming.

Well I’ve dropped another tablet so let’s see what weird freaky dreams I have but one things for sure these things try to knock you out so at least I should get some pain relief for the 1st time in weeks.

Nite all

Please do not rush your recovery, the last thing you want to do is turn a 12 month recovery into 18 months
And do not be afraid to take the pain pills, nobody will be impressed if you try to tough it out

Be careful Col.

A few years ago I was restricted at work due to awful sciatica (I couldn't get out of my car, it looked like I was trying to have a sh.. in the car park😆).
I was put on two painkillers but one was an antidepressant that somehow helps nerve pain.

Crazily I still had to go into work at first, I drove once, felt fine yet when parking I reversed my car into a bollard. Didn't drive again 🤣

Also had crazy dreams, did really stupid things including struggling to even open my front door after taking the dogs out back. Would forget things and make silly mistakes.
Also really screwed my moods up, I already suffer with depression and anxiety but this was different.

I'd be careful working on pins while side effects are still present, unless you have someone helping you.

On the other hand I bet playing pinball while high on painkillers is quite an experience!

Hope it's not too bad !

My wife was on Gabapentalin for a while, she was having really bad headaches so tried her on that. Was making her aggressive and didn’t get on with it or help with her headaches.
Never could help her with the intense headaches☹️

Good luck mate🤞

Col
keep the spirit’s high, high.
your doing the right thing so far, sharing your pain is a problem halved. Don’t even scratch your nose with that hand, do what the doctors say and don’t go with what your pinhead is telling you.
Good luck.
Alan

All the best for a speedy recovery mate, but take it easy and don't worry about Bertha she'll wait for you!
What an absolute clusterf*ck of an accident 🤦🏻‍♂️

Sorry to hear this Col; sounds horrible. As others have said, don't rush your recovery, be careful and do all you can to keep your spirits up! (watching a bit of Rick & Morty whilst on those drugs might be a bit of an experience:-)..)

Maybe time to invest in on of these to keep playing until youve healed.

Haha. My 3D printer lasted about 3 mth or so as I simply got sick of waiting and it felt like watching paint dry!
Once I bought a small laser I never looked back and just enjoy making stuff even non pinball related.
I was at hospital today over 3hrs after setting consultant they decide another X-ray was the order of the day due to the lack of motion in my hand. I then had physio on the hand which had me in bits with pain lasting for hours afterwards but codine and Gabbys soothed that.
Luckily I have now started to get the feeling back in my index finger so can manage a few games as long as I can refrain from nudging which I’m finding hard as it’s imprinted in the way I play.
I am hoping to make pinfest on at least one full day but the wife’s ACL reconstruction is on the 28th so I’m hoping she can manage without me fingers crossed or in my case fingers can’t cross 😂

Nasty injury.

Glad the medication is offering some respite, wishing you a smooth recovery.

Recall being prescribed this particular drug in hospital whilst awaiting emergency spinal surgery for a back injury I suffered some years back.

I’d endured months of pain, sciatica, no sleep with no drugs given by GP doing anything to ease the constant pain. Then bang, they gave me this the day before my surgery once I was admitted to hospital (getting admitted itself took a totally unnecessary battle) and at last some of the agony abated.

Do recall I had to be weaned off it post surgery though as I think it can be very addictive. But I’d have taken it much sooner given the option.

Take care of yourself fella.
